Travel Tips for Fredericksburg
Biking Willow City Loop
by msbrandysue
If you've seen my Things to Do tips then you've seen the amazing pictures of the 13-mile Willow City Loop. While we were driving the loop we ran into a few groups biking it! I thought it was an amazing way to see the sights while getting some great exercise.
*Note: The actual trail does not start and stop at the same place. Therefore, if you're going to bike it you will need to bike one way for the 13-miles and then 13 miles back. So, you may only do what you're comfortable with.
Although some of the pictures show terrain, the loop is paved and there are cows on the road! But they kept to themselves when I went. Need to bring your own stuff. Willow City is a bit far from Fredericksburg so you might not want to bike from there.
VISIT DAS PEACH HAUS / OBERHOF WINERY
by Rich62
"DAS PEACH HAUS" IS A NICE GIFT SHOP, AND THE OBERHOF WINERY IS PART OF THE SAME COMPLEX.
We think their best wine is in fact the peach wine. Tastings are free.
This is at 1406 South U.S. Highway 87.
I don't really know anything...

I don't really know anything about the restaurants in Fredericksburg, but if you are in the area in mid to late summer, you have to buy some peaches.
Peach: Round juicy fruit with downy yellowish-red skin and a rough stone.
Live Oak Wilderness Trail
by Jefie
If you're looking for something different to do while in Fredericksburg (different from shopping, I mean!), there's a nice little nature trail at the Lady Bird Municipal Park. It runs along a small river and is home to several different species of plants and animals - we even saw a couple of snakes (very exotic for us, Canadians)!
Garden of peace
by Djinn76
Close to the museum, you can walk through what is called the Garden of Peace, quite a weird name for what is indeed a tribute to the people who fought in the Pacific during WW2!
Indeed on the limestone wall enclosing this small garden you can see hundreds of plaques either celebrating a specific soldier or the whole crew of a battleship. If you wish, you can sponsor a 5”*7” plaques with 350$ or a bigger 20”*20” one for 2500$. You could think this money would be used to help some charity fund (to war victims for example), but it is not the case, it is simply used to further develop the nearby museum!!
