The room was ok but very dirty, the view was great and the general population of Galveston are great. The staff at this hotel treated myself and my family as though we were an inconvenience. At check in the young lady never so much as smiled, said hello... thank you... how is your day etc. furthermore she just looked away or ignored me each of the three times I thanked her for checking us in. The room was DIRTY. The appliances were not clean, there was hair in the tub, and the faucet on the tub did not work. The water would go from scalding to cold to off. Expect to sleep on (half pillows) that are very hard and uncomfortable. When you go to check out, you will be greeted by a young man that is nearly less friendly than the girl who checks you in and never even stands up, sits up or gets out of his chair to check you out. There is NO WAY this is a 3 Star hotel. It's a 2 star hotel with a 1/2 star staff and a 5 star view.
Directions: I-45 South turns into Broadway.... take a right on 21st St and it will run you into the hotel.
Harbor House is a small hotel located right on the waterfront of the Port of Galveston. It is actually an old shipping warehouse that has been converted into a hotel. It's location is it's main feature, situated near the historic Strand District, with loads of shopping, restaurants, and bars nearby. It is also very close to where the the docks are for the many cruise ships that port here. Many passengers that depart on cruise ships enjoy staying at Harbor House simply because it is so close to where they will be disembarking the following day. The hotel itself is quaint, nothing fancy about the decor within the lobby. Rooms have a basic design, but many have spectacular views of Galveston Bay and the Port. All furniture and amenities within the room, while a little bland, are well maintained. Bathrooms are also quite clean. There is a restaurant that serves a decent continental breakfast and fairly good seafood, but with all the other restaurants nearby, I would not recommend eating here. Staff seems helpful, but not of the sort to go out of their way to assist guests. Prices do vary depending on the particular time of year, and if there is anything going on around town at a given time. But basically, a fine hotel, nothing extravagant, well kept, but location is it's best asset!
Unique Quality: Location is great! Right on the water near the Strand, and wonderful for pre or post cruise ship passengers.
