What a let down.
OH MY GOD! This was a real experience. We have stayed in lots of La Quinta hotels on this trip, because over all, they are not so bad for the money, and the beds are great, as is the breakfast included.
But some of them, like this one, are some of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in.
Firstly, after a long days driving, we were looking forward to relaxing in a hotel that was right next to the sea front. As we entered the hotel, we were pretty much ignored while the staff argued with each other over things they were doing in their private lives.
We stood there for about 5 minutes before I had to say "excuse me, are you going to assist us?". To which the staff member turned and said "do you have a booking?" Not so much as a how are you or can I help you.
OK, this wasn't really a problem so much, but the room was. As we went in the room we were shocked to see the bed hadn't even been made from the last occupants. Really, the sheets were pulled back and there were towels on the floor. We took all our stuff back to reception and complained.
Once we told the receptionist, she got on the phone to the room staff. While we were stood there, the receptionist started shouting down the phone to the room staff, almost screaming down the phone. We were so shocked, and after what seemed like ages, we had to interrupt the receptionist and ask her what she was going to do about sorting us a room, never mind grilling the room staff.
We were told that this was the only room available to us, and that while we wait, someone will go and tidy the room. After nearly an hour, we were told our room was ready, so we made our way back, again with no trolly and a broken lift. The room was tidier, but still dust and dirt on things, and stains on the carpets.
Each time we went out past reception, the staff were all shouting and carrying on at the top of their voices, it was like watching a scene from Big Mommas House. We had a bad stay, but have had loads of laughs talking about it ever since.
Great Hotel for the Price
We stayed here on a Monday through Friday in April, so we got a really good rate. Also this is one of the few places here that would accept our Chihuahua. Our room had a good view of the gulf, it was attractive and comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was plentiful, and not at all crowded (probably due to the time of year.)
The one negative I found in an otherwise very clean and fresh room was the carpet. It was extremely stained...maybe due to previous pets?...but there was no unpleasant odor at all, just the stains.
Something else to be aware of - if you want an ocean view, ASK for it, and be prepared to pay a little (very little) extra. It's well worth the money to us.
Unique Quality: They didn't charge us extra or even ask for a deposit for our chihuahua. They did tell me they only accept pets under 20 pounds, although we saw one dog that surely weighed at least 50.
Directions: Right on 61st, then right again on Seawall Blvd. Next door to Holiday Inn Express.
