Bonnie and Clyde Were Here
by keeweechic
Back in 1934 on Easter Sunday, 1934, two highway patrolmen unwittingly stopped a car on the side of the road near Grapevine. They were open fired on by Bonnie and Clyde. Bonnie apparently walked over to one of the offers and rolled him over with her foot then fired a shot from her shotgun into the officers head. She then reportedly said, "look-a-there, his head bounced just like a rubber ball." Charming...!

Bakery and Restaurant
by VeronicaG about Main Street Bread Baking Company
The Main Street Bread Baking Company is a bakery, a cafe and a restaurant all blended into one very nice place to eat!
After browsing all the interesting shops along Main Street with friends or just by myself, I've enjoyed a flavorful Chicken Caesar Salad or just nibbled on a flakey piece of pastry with tea. Either way... it's a pleasant stop.
A small coffee bar is set to one side of the eatery for cozy cafe-type seating, while additional dining areas take the overflow or hold special gatherings.
The glass pastry case displays numerous samples of sugary delights. I'm sure there is something here for everyone's taste!
Grapevine Lake
by VeronicaG
You'll discover Lake Grapevine if you follow signs indicating 'marinas' along the Northwest Highway, running past the town of Grapevine.
Grapevine lake has 146 miles of shoreline, comprises 6,892 acres and has a maximum depth of 65 feet. The drop offs, underwater terrain and rocky shoreline attract large mouth bass.
At the dam near the water intake, white bass like to gather. Where the Twin Coves are formed and near the rock strewn shore, catfish and crapee can be found. However, fishing is not the only draw.
Water and recreational sports such as water-skiing, sailboating, kayaking, jet skiing and wind surfing are popular during the warmer months. There is a nearby campground (Vineyards) and people often stop by for family picnics. Free maps can be picked up either at the park or at the US Army Corps of Engineers office at 110 Fairway Dr. Grapevine.
Grapevine lake is located on Denton Creek, which is a tributary of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Tarrant and Denton Counties. It is north of the city of Grapevine.
Concerts at The Botanical Garden
by VeronicaG
In the Fall, The Botanical Garden offers free Saturday concerts to the public. After a hot Texas summer, the weather is perfect for enjoying music under the star-studded sky.
We made it to the last scheduled concert and were so glad we did! A slight breeze cooled the evening, children were happily jiggling to the songs and adults were tapping their feet to the rhythm of the Gorcher band. It was very laid-back, with blankets and folding chairs fronting the stage.
Although I didn't investigate, I noticed a table set up at one side of the garden where beverages of some sort were sold.
Next year, we're hoping for more open weekends so that we might enjoy this tranquil setting and these casual nighttime concerts!
