The Grapevine Home Bank
by VeronicaG
Main Street holds many historic buildings which have been beautifully restored. It's a pleasure to walk up the sidewalks to visit the small shops and restaurants lining the way.
One of these interesting buildings is The Grapevine Home Bank, constructed in 1900. It was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. It currently houses a jewelry store.
This building was restored by Fred Goad, Hank Gaines and Dennis Voith in 1985.
An Attractive Course
by keeweechic
The course cost around $12 million to layout and is known for lush trees, waterways and natural habitat. There is an attractive elevation which changes throughout the course. If you are a nervous golfer then you need to know that its under the flight path of DFW airport.
Fountain Sculpture
by VeronicaG
Oft used for pedestrian purposes and tucked to one side of Main Street, you'll find the Fountain Sculpture. It is located in a cluster of trees and attracts folks who might want to find respite from the sun or socialize with fellow neighbors.
This sculpture, depicting a pioneer family, stands in honor of General Sam Houston's visit in 1843. But perhaps not his visit, as much as the purpose of his visitation. Houston came to the area in August of that year, camping nearby at Grapevine Springs, in order to forge a Treaty of Peace and Friendship with the Indian Nation.
Not all of the Indian leaders arrived at the same time. Some came after Houston departed, so the treaty was later signed at Bird's Fort on September 29, 1843. Those tribes participating in the Treaty with the Republic of Texas were the Biloxi, Caddo, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Delaware, Ez-e-nye, Keechye, 'Nardarka, Tahwahkarro and Waco.
Terrific Breakfast; Country French Decor
by VeronicaG about Mimi's Cafe
Mimi's Cafe offers warm country French decor and delicious breakfasts! Although, this restaurant serves lunch and dinner, too, we always seem to land here for the first meal of the day. Just remember, lots of other people like Mimi's, too, so sometimes you wait.
Two of my favorite choices are the Breakfast Quiche ($8.29)--a mini-pie sized Quiche Lorraine with bacon and Swiss cheese with fresh fruit (red potatoes are also included, but I never opt for these). The crust was so wonderfully flaky!
Three Berry Stuffed French Toast ($7.99) is a delectable combination with cream cheese and orange marmalade filling the toast and blueberries, strawberries and raspberry puree topping. Eggs, bacon or sausage and OJ are included, but I never include these...it's just too much.
On our first visit to Mimi's we were given four luscious muffins to take home to enjoy--complimentary! These are nice people!
"Walking to Texas"
by keeweechic
Situated in Liberty Park Plaza is a tribute the early pioneer families who came to the Grape Vine Prairie in the hopes of seeking a new life. The sculpture shows a father embracing his wife and child. On the fountain below the sculpture there are four horse heads which face north, south, east and west. These are to represent the four directions and the spirit of the American Indians who originally lived on the prairie. This piece was the first to be dedicated in the public art display back in 1996. The artist was Michael Cunningham.
