Travel Tips for Grapevine

Cowboys Golf Course

by keeweechic

The Cowboys Golf Club opened in 2001 and was named as such because the Dallas Cowboys Football team is a co-owner. The teams memorabilia is displayed in the clubhouse and around the course there are plaques which commemorate important moments in the Dallas Cowboys history. The Golf Course is adjacent to the Gaylord Texan Resort and Conference Centre.

Sculpture #2--COMING HOME

by VeronicaG

COMING HOME is a touching tribute to soldiers everywhere. It is the Grapevine Veterans Memorial created by artist, Michael Pavlovsky and dedicated on Memorial Day, 2000. It sits outside the Grapevine Vintage Railroad station on Main street.

The bronze sculpture depicts a soldier returning from war to the waiting arms of his beloved wife. It captures a realistic moment in the life of a war-weary man who literally jumps down the steps of the train to be welcomed with a hug and a kiss by his loved one. I really find this sculpture enthralling!

This piece honors Grapevine veterans from Grapevine who participated in the war. A companion piece titled MILITARY ARCH was dedicated in the same year.

Pavlovsky was born in Dover, Delaware and currently resides in Ft. Worth, Texas.

A Touch of the Tropical

by VeronicaG about Rainforest Cafe

The Rainforest Cafe is always a hit with the kids! The tropical decor and animated animals make it a great place for lunch or dinner. Of course, you usually have to nagivate the gift shop first where there are lots of cute toys within.

While the grandkids were staying with us we dined at this restaurant three times in two different locations. A kid-size cheese pizza and a plate of three mini burgers cost $5.99 each. Adults entrees tend to be more expensive: chicken quesadilla $8.99 and Chicken Caesar Salad about $13.99, I believe.

For those unfamiliar with this chain, you'll experience a thunderstorm during your time here, as well as, see the animals seemingly come to life. I highly recommend it for kids!

"The Sidewalk Judge"

by keeweechic

An interesting character you will come across is The Sidewalk Judge – a lifelike character that sits on a bench outside the old Wallis Hotel. The judge is to represent the older generation of men in the early days of Grapevine, who would congregate in town to catch-up and give advice to anyone wanting it. He looks like he’s sitting there ready to have someone sit beside him for a chat. The sculpture was dedicated in 1997 and was created by J. Seward Johnson.

Grapevine Calaboose

by keeweechic

The Grapevine City Council ordered this calaboose to be built in 1909 and it was the town’s first jail. Used mainly for petty criminals right up into the 1950’s, it must have got pretty hot in summer and darn cold in winter sitting in this little thing. The calaboose has been moved twice since its original location behind the Main Street shops to the north of where it now sits.
