Grapevine.

by jnclrk

Hello. I'm to visit Grapevine soon & wondered how the drought in most areas of the country might affect the water level (& thus the activities) at Grapevine Lake. I googled 'level alert lake' but found nothing specific. In short, I have no experience w/ droughts & wonder if you have any idea, if the lack of rain continues, how severe the impact might be vacation-wise in that area of the country. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Re: Grapevine.

Due to recent and frequent rains, the lake levels here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area are up. Grapevine is actual a foot above normal so your trip here should be fine. You can check Grapevine Lake levels at the following website as you get closer to your trip.

Travel Tips for Grapevine

The Butterfly Flutterby

by VeronicaG

Grapevine throws great events such as Main Street Days and Grapefest, so when I read in the newspaper that this town would be having the Butterfly Flutterby fest, I wanted to go.

A red firetruck led the parade down Main street Grapevine with a long line of children, parents and grandparents behind. The rear of the firetruck held a net cage filled with Monarch butterflies meant to be released. I understand that caterpillars are carefully collected and nurtured until they are ready for migration.

This yearly event is meant to celebrate the Monarch butterflies annual migration to Mexico. Each Fall season they travel thousands of miles from eastern and central North America to spend winter. In the Spring, the Monarchs lay their eggs as they travel northward once again and their new offspring finish the trip for them.

Monarchs have large, brown-orange wings with thick black outlines and black veins. The edging of their wings have small white dots. These are mostly found in fields, along roads and feed on milkweed. Their habitat is far-reaching with the exception of the extreme north*.

Grapevine Municipal Golf Course

by keeweechic

The Grapevine Municipal golf course opened in 1979 as a 18 hole championship course which was designed by Byron Nelson and Joe Finger. It has been rated among the top 75 public courses in the U.S.A. Improvements to the old course were designed and nine more holes have been added to make a total of 27 holes available.

A Tribute To A Beloved Mayor

by VeronicaG

This distinguished gentleman is popular Grapevine Mayor, Benjamin Richard Wall (1876-1955). His likeness was sculpted in bronze by Archie St. Clair and dedicated on May 15, 2004.

Benjamin Wall was born in Grapevine and attended Grapevine College, as well as, Baylor University where he studied law. He established the Grapevine Sun in 1895 and wrote weekly columns for his newspaper.

Mayor Wall had a long career in Grapevine politics. He served in that capacity from 1912-14; 1916-17; 1919-20 and 1933-46. It is noted that he went to New York in 1913 and returned with the #7 Boy Scout Unit Charter, which was the first troop West of the Mississippi.

Italian Restaurant

by VeronicaG about Cafe Italia

There are a few restaurants within the Metroplex we enjoy frequenting when we have the craving for Italian food--Cafe Italia is one of these.

This intimate-sized restaurant on the outskirts of Grapevine offers a fairly extensive menu. My usual choice is either Rigatoni with Vodka Sauce or the Chicken Fettucine Alfredo--both are excellent. The meals include salad and rolls. Cannoli for dessert would be a wise choice!

It's byob, so don't hesitate to bring your own wine if desired. Our most recent dining experience was a pleasant one with friends. We were served promptly, enabling us to head to Grapevine's Palace Theatre for a Friday night show in plenty of time!

Cafe Italian also has another restaurant in Grapevine at 2631 Ira E. Woods.

Main Event-- Great for Kids!

by VeronicaG

MAIN EVENT keeps kids wanting to come for more to this entertainment venue in Grapevine. We just discovered this game place recently when we took our 11 year old grandson there to play the games. We had a wild time playing laser tag!

Monday night specials beginning at 5 pm offer bowling, billiards and laser tag for only $10 per person. Another option would be a unlimited game card for the arcade at $10 per person. Either way, it makes for a less expensive evening. After 10 pm, guests have to be 18 years or older--the fun continues until 2am. with the exception of laser tag which closes at 11pm.
