If you're visiting in the fall, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is the mega-event of the season. Bull riding, cow roping, B-B-Q, and the carnival are a few of the things to see/do. The endless possibilities of things to do when in Houston.
Saint Arnold Microbrewery
by XenoHumph
Beer lovers, wake up! There is one microbrewery in Houston, making very nice beer (a lager, a wheatbeer, a brown, an amber, and seasonal beers) which can be bought in every store of Houston. There is a tour of the brewery every Saturday at 1 pm and it includes free beer!
Here is what you do if you are an aficionado of St Arnold beer.
Show up shortly before 1 pm on Saturday, without forgetting the glasses you bought during your last visit, and all the St Arnold 6-pack carriers of the beer you drank since then.
Enter the brewery at 1 pm and grab as many tockens as you can (these are for the free beer, you'll probably get 4 per person).
Listen to the talk of the brew master (he is really funny and interesting).
Head for the bar and drink. If you have your own glass you will get more beer, and your carrriers can be exchanged for St Arnold souvenirs (10 for a pint glass, 20 for a pilsner glass, aso...).
If you are lucky, there will not be a very bad local rock band playing much too loudly.
Directions:
St Arnold brewery is located Northwest of Houston, just outside 610 loop in a warehouse in an industrial park.
From West 610 Loop:
Exit 290 at Antoine/34th Street. Make a U-turn under the freeway and take the feeder road southeast for 1/4 mile. Then turn right on Mitchelldale. Take the second left onto Fairway Park Drive. The Brewery is 150 yards down Fairway Park Drive on the left.
Another good Mexican restaurant
by monicarc about El Tiempo
Since we are blessed in Houston to have the best tex-mex food in the world (which is why I could never move to Europe!), you can add El Tiempo to the list. The food and drinks are awesome and its a pretty fun place Wed.-Saturday. Beef fajitas are good! So is the green salsa!
Great Italian
by msbrandysue about Gugliani's
Gugliani's a rather new place that was put into a strip center right in front of my dad's house. They actually gave out free meal coupons to teachers in the district so I ate here with a teacher friend of mine.
The atmosphere is very laid back and friendly. We did go around 1:45-2:30 though so we missed the lunch crowd. The decorations are Italian and it's nicely lit.
The waiter was friendly and we enjoyed ourselves.
After we ordered our meal we were given about 4-5 slices of bread. DELICIOUS! It was on the house. I ordered a turkey panini that was wonderful. You decide if you want chips, salad, or fruit with it. I had a caesar salad and it was equally good.
They also have a range of pasta, pizza, and more.

There are so many things to do. DOn't forget the Astros, Rockets, Comets, Aero(minor league hockey), Rice university sports, and u of houston sports. Both of those are great in baseball and pretty fun to watch in the football and basketball.
