If you like a free show from time to time then you must visit the Miller Outdoor Theatre. This is one of the few places in Houston where you can take a picnic dinner to a concert or play--for free. The Miller Theatre in Hermann Park was renovated in 1998 and holds a wide variety of family-friendly performances each year, including Cinco de Mayo and Fourth of July festivities. You can also catch Shakespeare in the Park during the summer if you're OK with being in the heat for a few hours. BE PREPARED- Parking is definitely an issue; you'd do best to show up early and stake your claim on a good parking space and a place to park yourself on the hill. Essential items to pack are a blanket, sunscreen and mosquito repellent. Relax and enjoy.
DIRTY DANCING
by DV8 about CENTERFOLDS
Centerfold's is a sister club to Treasure's. Unlike Treasures, Centerfolds has a more laid back atmosphere, but don't let that fool you, things can get every bit as hot, if not hotter, here than they do in Treasures.
Spring for the V.I.P. room and then let your wallet do the talking.
Great Houston Based Restaurants!
by H-TownJourneyman about Pappas Restaurants
The Pappas Restaurants chain, based here in Houston, is an extremely popular group of dining establishments with locations throughout the United States. After the family immigrated to the United States in the late 19th century from Greece, they opened up several restaurants throughout the south. Later in the 1900's the family got out of the industry, only to see later family members reenter the restaurant business. The first Pappas restaurant as we know the company today opened in 1976. Now there are nearly 100 establishments across the U.S. Pappasitos specializes in Mexican food, while Pappa Bros. Steakhouse is a fine dining steak and chops restaurant. Pappas Bar-B-Q has some mouthwatering BBQ served up, and Pappa's Seafood Kitchen serves up some of the freshest Gulf Coast seafood around. Yia Yia Mary's is a greek restaurant, a tribute to the family's Mediterranean roots. And of course we have Pappadeaux, my personal favorite, with some of the tastiest Cajun seafood you will find this side of the French Quarter in New Orleans! I have been eating at Pappa's restaurants all my life, and I have never had a bad experience at any of them! A well organized and run company, and excellent food!
get lost in the Liquor Store
by IronLenz
Anyone who has ever been DRUNK should go to Specs Liquor. See, learn, enjoy. This place is huge and has more variety of liquor and wine than I have seen anywhere else. I had fun just walking around.
This excerpt from the Houston Press Best of 2007 edition sums it up.
Best Liquor Store (2007)
"If you need a keg for a frat party, they have over 200 different types and sizes to choose from. If for some reason you're looking for an $800 bottle of Scotch, well, they have that too, as well as a mind-boggling amount of wine..."
Old Town Spring
by Angela0667
I like walking around this little town and shopping in all the little shops. Especially the candle stores. My favorite restaurant here is Wunsche Bros. Cafe (281-350-CAFE) located at 103 Midway - Spring's famous historic landmark known for down home Texas food. Their Cajun catfish and squash casserole is delicious!
