Avoid this hotel!
Let me begin by saying that I will assume most Extended Stay America hotels are not as horrible as ESA Houston-NASA. Otherwise, presumably the brand would have long since disappeared. Let's start with my non-smoking accommodation, which reeked of tobacco and had a large hole burned into the bedspread. After the receptionist went upstairs and confirmed that things were not as promised, I was moved to a room which was blessedly smoke-free, but which happened to be immediately adjacent to some re-siding and other reconstruction efforts which apparently required heavy power tools and impressively noisy efforts from dawn until dusk. They knocked off when it was completely dark, thank heavens, so that sleep was a possibility. There was no computer access, no pool...really, all that could be said was that you could park free. Oh, and they gave me a bottle of water and two little bags of snack food. Welcome to Houston!
Yes, this was far and away the least expensive night on my journey. But I've decided I'm worth the extra twenty bucks, and I'll never darken the door of an Extended Stay facility again.
Now let me confess that the reason I stayed there at all was that when I telephoned the Johnson Space Center, a very nice operator told me that ESA Houston was right across the street, so conveniently located that I wouldn't even need to park at Space Center Houston. But she presumably lives somewhere, and never had to actually spend a night as a guest at the hotel. Oh, well, live and learn.
Unique Quality: A perverse desire to drive away customers probably doesn't count, does it?
