Driving in Houston is almost a must
by jjp76
Unfortunately, Houston has no real public transporation system.
The light rail, which will be completed in early 2004, will only serve those from downtown to Reliant Park. Although this includes the Museum District and the Medical Center, it does not include the Galleria area, NASA, and other outlying areas.
Though there is a bus system, you really need a car and a good map to get around in Houston.
The best situation is know someone in Houston who will drive you to the places of interest.
Mall Shopping on the Northwest Side
by H-TownJourneyman about Willowbrook Mall
Located Northwest of Houston on FM 1960, Willowbrook Mall is a popular shopping destination for people on this side of town. Growing up just down the street, I have frequented this mall since i was a young boy. Like most megamalls of Houston, it has the big department stores such as Dillards, Sears, and JC Penney. Many apparel shops are here like Eddie Bauer, Banana Republic, and Old Navy. There are shoe stores such as Foot Locker and Payless, and jewelry stores like Helzberg and Kay. And of course, no mall would be complete without a food court! Chick Fil-A has a location here, as do Taco Bell and Wendy's, along with a few specialty eateries like Cajun&Grill and Sarku Japanese. The mall has recently been renovated, and it has a much more modern look to it than previously. Generally megamalls like Willowbrook will have higher prices than individual stores located elsewhere, but with it's location out of the center of town, for the most part it's more reasonable then malls in town like the Galleria.

You can't come to Texas and not have some B-B-Q!!! the best place to get it in Houston is Brown Sugar's B-B-Q. It's VERY affordable delicious.
It's a down home country enviroment. From the old fashion camping plates to the checkered tableclothes. The Super Spud! This baked potato comes with sour cream, chives, butter, cheese, and a pile of chopped beef or turkey. They say everything is bigger in Texas, and in the case of The Super Spud it's true!
Authentic Mexican in the Clear Lake area
by XenoHumph about Mely's
Real mexican food in the Clear Lake area (SW Houston, where NASA-Johnson Space center is located)!! A restaurant that finally dares to have spicy food if you want to! Delicious, large choice on the menu, great margaritas (not watered down for once...). The best mexican restaurant I have found so far in Houston. And cheap at that!

If you're an artsy type of person, like me, then you'll appreciate visiting the Museum of Fine Arts.
They have unique art from all over the world displayed there and many times they have special events going on year round.
