shuttel bus to NASA

by seidl

Hi!

I would like to go to the Space Center near Houston. Unfortunately I don't have a car. Does someone now how to go from Houston downtown to NASA on weekends?

thanks

You are probably better off renting a car for the day, as it is a 25 mile trip each way, which means a taxi will run you somewhere from $40 USD to $60 USD each way. Plan for $100USD in transportation using taxi, or $40-50 USD for a rental.

There is a public bus down there, but it's a pain and has a strange schedule.
I agree: just rent a car.
But, just so you know, the Space Center itself is mostly kid-oriented.

The Metro 246 commuter bus goes from downtown to NASA but only on weekdays. Check the map at www.ridemetro.org for other local buses that might go to that area on weekends.

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately I have forgotten my driver's licens in my home country, so I can't rent a car. Is there any other possibility, except a cap. That would cost 140$ for both dircetions.

If you can't down there on any day but a weekend, then it's not worth the trouble. What exactly do you want to do down there? Go on the tour?
There are airport shuttles running from Intercontinental and Hobby Airports. They would be able to drop you down there for about $30/person. But I don't think that a taxi would be a whole lot more than that if your party consists of more than one person.
Unfortunately Houston itself is not easy on the non-car transit front. And Space Center Houston is about 30km from the city, so it's even more difficult to reach.

Travel Tips for Houston

Feel its sizes and contrasts...

by barcodex

Feel its sizes and contrasts of architecture styles of different parts of city. Houston itself outside the downtown. Look at the picture - it's what I call an 'one-floor-America' - buildings do not grow up, they grow wide. It is quite strange to see sucha contrast - extremely high buildings gathered in one place, and thousands of flat houses around. What a contrast!

Check out the San Jacinto...

Not a family friendly restaurant

by Diego_dog about Restaurant Ronit

The atmosphere is great if you are single, but don't make the mistake of bringing a small family - as you'll definitely be treated like a pest. We asked if there were any specials of the day, but were told there were none. I've been told that they do offer specials but other friends who've eaten there, but they didn't bring their family either. The food is ok. Their eggplant sandwich is LOADED with olive oil and dill, but they did give enough food to feed an army. I did not try the pastries (although, they looked good), as their snobby attitude towards those bringing families left me wanting to leave quickly.

More Than Your Average Burrito!

by H-TownJourneyman about Freebirds

This Texas chain of burrito restaurants began in College Station, but has since opened stores in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. It can be compared to the Chipotle chain of burrito restaurants, but with more options such as different sizes of the burritos, different types of tortillas, and more ingredient options, Freebirds definately has the edge over Chipotle. The regular freebird size is enough for most people, and the monster can usually take on 2 people, no problem. Then they have the supermonster, which is frightening just to look at! But they have it, if you dare! :) Different types of meat are available such as grilled chicken or beef, several different types of beans, and an assortment of veggies and sauces. They also offer tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and salads. But to go to Freebirds and not have a burrito would be like taking a trip to Hawaii, and not going to the beach! Just isn't right! :) So if you are in the mood for a belly busting burrito meal in Houston, this would be the place to take care of that! The burritos, of course!!! :)

AstroWorld (Six Flags)

by John_P_LSU

Besides its sprawling 85 acres, the park boasts the most rides in the state and the fourth-largest collection of coasters in the world. One of its main attractions is the Serial Thriller, the only suspended, looping coaster of its kind in the Southwest.

Sure, there are hair-raising experiences aplenty, but there's more to Astroworld than thrills and chills. In Looney Tunes Town, the whole family can wander through Yosemite Sam's Mountaineer Maze or take a ride on the Martian spaceship. There are also live theatrical shows and special pyrotechnic treats all around the park.
