Don't Always believe what you read on Here
This hotel is a cost efficient hotel that has not been renovated in many years. The staff, including the manager Scott are very helpful and try to keep it Very Clean and safe for all guest. Many of the guest are medical patients or medical employees and it saves lots of money by staying here in relation to other hotels in that area. They run a tight ship there for the safety of all of us. I appreciate that! I have been in the office while some of these guest with other reviews here are not too nice to the staff. It usually is when they want to break a rule in regards to the hotel policy. They are usually the ones that complain on sites like this one. I have worked in customer service as well and no matter what you do, THERE ARE SOME THAT MAKE UP THINGS AND ONLY PUT ONE SIDED THINGS IN A REVIEW. I wanted to give a great review for Scott and his whole team for a job well done in keeping it a safe and enjoyable stay there when life is not so kind. "DO NOT ALWAYS BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ." Since you're near Reliant Stadium, you're near the light rail, so there's actually quite a bit to do.
Houston has an excellent Children's and Natural History museum, both located off Hermann Drive east of Fannin. The Natural History museum has an IMAX theater. Get off at the Museum District stop.
There's also the zoo, which can definitely take a whole day. Get off at the Hermann Hospital/Zoo stop and walk a bit east down Mac Gregor.
What else depends on what you like to do and what your kids like to do and how old they are.

If you have a car, drive down to Galveston (about an hour). Walk on the beach. See the Elissa (sailing ship, although since its sails were damaged in the recent hurricane, don't know if it's open or not). Check to see if Seawolf Park is open - they have a destroyer escort and a submarine there (the destroyer escort was partially dislodged from its 'mooring' in the dirt so checking will necessary). See the Flight Museum. See the Moody Gardens. Take the FREE ferry from the eastern tip of the island to the Bolivar peninsula - a great way to see ocean going vessels and dolphins. If you do this, take the right lane of the 2-lane road to the ferry, park in the terminal parking lot, walk on board, sail across to the Bolivar Peninsula, then stay on the ferry and sail back - since it's FREE (did I stress that enough), it's hard to beat for a family outing ;-)
Anyway, I don't know if you have a car, but there's plenty for you and the kids to do in Galveston...

I agree about going to the memorial park museums/zoo area..especially if you have younger children with you. Kemah and the space center would be a few kid friendly options as well.

Also, if you have a car, you might check out the NASA space center down in Clear Lake.
I'm not sure when you will be here, but if you are visiting now and through the rest of March, we have the rodeo going on, which is right at Reliant. The rodeo is always a lot of fun!

Houston is a huge city, the 4th largest in the nation and everyone here owns a car... and I don't mean every family.. i mean each person has his own car... I need not say that public transport isn't exactly the best there is.. You will need to rent a car or know someone living here.. You should also try and catch the fireworks over downtown...houston houston houston houston houston houston houston houston houston houston

Kemah was a nice escape from the city. Located on the gulf, there is a nice area called Kemah Boardwalk. It was about 1/2 hour from downtown Houston. Great restaurants and some touristy shops. Hung out on the deck at the Cadillac Bar with friends and had a great time!
Good Seafood @ Great Price!
by PsiliPharm about Mambo's Seafood
A wonderful, small Mexican Seafood restaurant. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is very nice. Mostly Beautiful Latin Women! The jukebox is always playing good latin music, and the Margarita's taste really good. Actually, I just love the atmosphere, the women, and the margaritas!!
ANOTHER good Italian restaurant
by monicarc about D'Amico's
As Houston is the Restaurant capital of the US, there are tons of good restaurants here. Another Italian one is D'Amico's, in the Rice Village. It has the feel of an old italian deli/diner, its very fun on the weekends. Parking is horrible. Risotto!!!!!!!
Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo
by krackhorre
The beginning of March marks the start of the Houston Rodeo now held in Reliant Stadium. If you happen to be visiting I highly recommend you attend. The rodeo offers people a chance to see real Bull riding, barrel racing, Bronc riding, Steer wrestling and calf roping. You can also take in a concert or two since the rodeo usually books such headlining acts as Garth Brooks and Duran Duran. You gotta love the diversity!
