No shuttle. METRO runs a public bus, but 246 and 249 commuter service are on very limited schedules and it would take a LONG time to get there from Downtown. http://www.ridemetro.org/pdf/routes/gulfcorridor.pdf
What sort of shopping are you looking for?
Brand-name stuff would be the Harwin Drive area on the weekends, which is along Harwin Drive between about Fondren and Gessner.
For antiques, there's a strip along Westheimer in the Montrose, but also along 19th Street in The Heights. I'm not into antiquing, but I think they're about the same on prices.
There are also lots of flea markets around town, usually only open on the weekends. But these would be hard to reach without a car and probably not worth the trouble.
And, of course, many thrift stores around town.

i'm not sure what you mean by "good bargains". harwin is pretty ghetto now. unless you live in a small place in california and haven't been exposed to throngs of asian knock off shops, i wouldn't bother. you really can't get any good fake designer stuff there anymore either. perhaps you want to check out the outlets out in katy--that would be cheaper nicer clothes. but all over the city are cool places with nice prices, it just depends what you want. plus you need a car.

OH MY GOD THE QUESO !!

by TeriyakiKitty about Texadelphia

It's amazing !! This is a great place to go watch the game with friends, family or a bunch of rowdy drunks !! I love the mustard sauce on cheese steak sandwhich .. the chips and queso .. mmm .. I know where I am eating dinner !!

Good Mexican Food

by msbrandysue about Gringo's Mexican Kitchen

Right down the street a Gringo's Mexican Kitchen opened up. This was not the original restaurant in the state but definitely in the Spring area.

The food is good. I don't really like the chips but to some people that's nothing. I stay close to the enchiladas because I have tasted some things that were not my favorite.

The ambience is kind of loud. Families are welcome here. They have a bar and tvs in the dining areas which usually have sports or news on. They're too small to read, though, so close caption is kind of useless.

It's in a strip center by a gym and other smaller restaurants.

What makes it special is probably the free ice cream machine in the main lobby/waiting area. I don't always get it but the kids LOVE it!

Good margaritas...Kind of depends on the bartender though.... They're like a different color everytime we go.... My favorite dish would be the chicken enchiladas with sour cream on top.

NASA Johnson Space Center

by krackhorre

Though shuttles are no longer launched from Johnson the center plays an important part in todays space exploration. Astronauts as well as other international space explorers train at Johnson. Mission Control for all shuttle flights is run out of Johnson. The center has a great museum detailing the history and the future of human space flight.
