Sam Houston Park is on the southwest side of Downtown near the I-45/Allen Parkway interchange. Part of it is actually below I-45. The address on the Houston Parks & Rec site says 1000 Bagby.

Go to http://maps.yahoo.com - I hope this will bring up the beta version of Yahoo's maps - if it asks, ask for the beta version.
Enter in the upper left "Bagby St at Lamar St, Houston, TX" - you will be shown exactly where the park is - on the northwest edge of downtown not far from the Doubletree...

Travel Tips for Houston
Spanish Moss
by XenoHumph
Throughout the South of the USA, especially close to the Gulf of Mexico, you will notice that most trees have grey moss hanging down from their branches. It is called Spanish Moss, and is very common in Houston where it thrives in the humid climate.
Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) is actually not a moss at all but belongs to the Bromeliads family. It is a flowering plant that absorbs nutrients and water from the air and rain (called epiphyte plant). Being not a parasite, it does not harm the trees it grows on.
Best Lounge
by Mari6625 about WESTHEIMER/ Galleria Area
This cozy nightspot across from the Galleria III boasts an upscale casual atmosphere ideal for conversation and people watching. Cool 20-something/ 30 something clubbers take a break from throbbing dance floors for a seat on one of Buddha's comfortable couches and chairs. Sultry candlelight illuminates the hip décor and trendy patrons sipping specialty cocktails. My absolute favorite place in Houston. Great place to avoid the hassle of downtown and midtown. Beautiful crowd, great music, wi fi, great staff. Drinks are slightly pricey, but well worth it.
Napoli's #5 -- Good, Cheap Italian food
by Stargazer1 about Napoli's #5
Napoli's has lunch specials for $3.99 to $5.99, most include salad and garlic bread (the two slices of cheese pizza come with salad but no garlic bread for $3.99). The Beef Cannelloni and Lasagne are very good. The pizzas are great, both thin crust and deep dish. Beef Cannelloni hits the spot, and the salad has a good, light dressing.
Houston Medical Center
by houtourist
Houston has one of the largest Medical Centers in the USA. If you are going to visit the Medical Center it can get very confusing as to where things are located and you may want to search by name or profession to use your time more wisely. I suggest visiting houstonmedclinics and preforming some searching prior so you have a good idea of what Houston Doctors have to offer in contrast to many other areas. I found this to be a great and simple resource when visiting the medical center and Houston in general when searching and exploring Houston's vast medical resources. You can't go wrong with visiting the Houston medical center just make sure you know what you want to look for.
Water Wall
by CLillard
Scenic Water wall in the Galleria area. Very romantic spot, where many guys propose to their girlfriends. They always have horse carriages in the evenings if you want to take a romantic ride. And this is next to a park. It's a city landmark, most Houstonians have been here at least once! It was designed by local architects in 1985 and the wall of water drops thousands of gallons 64 feet every minute.
Daily 7am-10pm. Viewing the waterwall is FREE!
