Horseback Riding

by sagarian

I am traveling to Houston for the first time and would like to go trail riding in the area around Houston or San Antonio. I am of intermediate riding level and would like a ride that will provide a challenge (or a least not have me poking along behind some family of four on a horse for the first time). Are there any reputable places that offer day rides with small groups? Thus far, I have come across Cypress Trails outside Houston and the Bar M ranch in Bandera. If anyone has any information about these or other establishments it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I went with a school trip to the Y.O. Ranch. Very friendly and good fun. We were there for 4 days, but you can do day trips here as well. It's near San Antonio, check out the website: http://www.yoranch.com/YORanch.html

Travel Tips for Houston

Packing List

by semanuel

Sunscreen, especially in the Spring and Summer. A hat to keep the sun off your head. Houstonians are fairly casual. There are only a few restaurants and places where you need to dress up, and that's only if you want to go to a fancy dinner or to the theatre.

Really Clubbing

by Angelamtp1 about M Bar and Red Door

M Bar, downtown, is a beautiful large nightclub, very Miami interior.
The newest addition to the Houston nightclub scene is The Red Door in Midtown, this bar has a mile long line, so get there about 9pm any given night, really! The upstairs terrace is modern spanish, the service is great, and it gets really loud and crowded about 11pm. Dress nice, it helps

Deli Delights!

by rsleisk about Butera's Fine Foods & Deli

Fine Foods & Delicatessen made fresh daily, including the rolls, baguettes and croissants. Since 1979, this cafeteria-style shop has been serving innovative variations on specialty and traditional deli sandwiches, featuring creations such as the Faccialetta, a Muffaletta (Italian salami, ham, provolone and home-made olive relish) on fresh baked focaccia bread; the Spicy Thai BBQ Pork Sandwich (on a French baguette with cucumber, carrot and jalepeño); and the die-hard Jawbreaker, an onion roll stacked with hot pastrami, Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing.

Great deserts too! Muffaletta, the best outside of New Orleans!

Chase Tower

by Tom_Fields

The Chase Tower is the tallest composite building in the world, constructed of stainless steel, granite, and gray glass. The Sky Lobby, on the 60th floor, affords one of the best views of the city, rivalled only by that of the Transco (Williams) Tower. It stands over 1,000 feet high, and contains 1.98 million square feet of space.

The skyscrappers

by Djinn76

It is funny to notice these huge buildings start to become a touristic destination, people know their name and quite often what they are...

If you are in the area at a time when the office should be closed, I'd recommend a small drive to downtown... I've done it during Thanksgiving, it was surrealistic to see the deserted buildings and the empty streets and imagine how busy they can be on a weekday...
