Info on Suburban neighborhoods in Houston are

by ohioresident

Hi-
I'm from Columbus Ohio and I am considering moving to the Houston are. I really need help on finding a nice area in the suburbs of Houston. I have 3 teenagers, therefore, I'm looking for a nice, maybe upscale, area with a really good High School, convenient shopping, and safe. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

The Woodlands area would probably be your best bet. As a general rule, stay away from anything on the east side of town and try to avoid the HISD school district.

I would agree with The Woodlands (where I live) located NW of Houston or SugarLand which is SW of Houston. Both are very safe especially The Woodlands although it's a bit of drive from inner city.

I agree about the Woodlands and or Kingwood, northwest and north east of Houston, respectively. If you are in the southeast suburb, then Friendswood or Clear Lake would be your selection. League City has a very large planned community in South Shore Harbour. That may be your other options. Both the Friendswood and Clear Creek school districts show very high SAT scores.

Minute Maid Park

Another magnificent sports arena located in Houston. This one is snuggled into the heart of downtown Houston. It can seat about 41,000 people. I have yet to attend a game inside this stadium, so I cannot comment on much else.

Emo's. There is one in Austin too, and they both rock.
If you want loud, live music, this is THE place for it. It's a total dive and the drinks suck, but you can see local as well as national bands for next to nothing. You must like loud and heavy music to enjoy this place. For christsake the MELVINS have played there. VERY casual.

best for a humongous crowd

a very different setting, taking you through the kitchen to the table.. kinda homey feel without overtly being so, but definetly a casual setting... perfect for those who are celebrating a birthday occasion or something along that lines. nothing in particular.. though becareful to not overorder, as the helping are meant for 4-6 ppl... be sure to discuss with your waiter... i had the unfortunate experience of overordering.. and lugging leftovers back...

A Whole Day's Worth of Activities

Very close to the large Medical City area, just South of Downtown is Hermann Park. In and around the park itself are several museums, a golf course, a lake with paddle boats, a small scale train to tour the park on, botanical gardens, a world-class zoo,and lots of green areas.

Sam Houston Park - St. John Church

by Djinn76

This church was built in 1891 by German farmers for their Evangelical Lutheran congregation. It has been moved to the park in 1968.

I really like the contrast between this old church and the huge skyscrappers in the background even if this time, it is quite artificial, this church doesn't really belong to this place!
