Embassy Suites, Houston, downtonw: Embassy Suites, Houston, downtown

Yes, I would recommend this hotel. We have stayed at other Embassy Suites before. It suits a family of three easily, offering not only a bedroom with bathroom but also a separate living room area complete with a pullout sofa bed and sink, microwave, coffeemaker and small refrigerator. For this trip, we were scheduled to run the Chevron Houston Marathon. The expo and start/finish line is two blocks away at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Not only was the location very convenient, the hotel seems very new and clean. Actually, the decor is bright and the furniture is nontraditional; my husband commented that is was like being in a daycare.

Breakfast and afternoon social hour are included in the price of the room. What made this stay a bit pricey is the added cost of valet only parking of $28 plus $2.13 tax each night we stayed.

The staff was very accommodating. Since the marathon started at 7 am the hotel offered breakfast earlier than usual on race day. The only disappointment was that the jacuzzi was not operating during our stay. I would have liked to have used it after the marathon.

The best characteristic of this hotel was its location, being near the convention center. Also, within walking distance are some fine restaurants, namely Mia Bella and The Grove.

HI Houston: New Houston Hostel (as of 9/2011)

Centrally located, one block from 81 & 82 Metro bus stop that runs from downtown to the Galleria and further west.

I haven't stayed there but it is located in a beautiful historic house in a nice neighborhood. Many restaurants, bars & stores within walking distance.

Baymont Inn & Suites Houston Intercontinental Airp: Convenient airport near airport

I chose this hotel because of good reviews I read about it and also because of the free wireless internet...and yes, it was good and high-speed so I had no problems accessing it. Also the room was standard, clean and withg flat screen TV. Rooms also have teh standard refrigerators, microwaves, and hair dryers.

I did have some muffins and orange juice for breakfast - but I did not see any bacons or sausages.

Parking was easy. However, using ym GPS it was little bit difficult to get to the hotel. But it is really just right beside a Sonic hotdog place I think...and also a gas station.

At the time I checked in, the one at the desk was being trained and there was just a little delay, but just a few minutes. They do not have safety boxes in the rooms, but they do have at the front desk. They hand you the key and just be sure not to lose the key because I was told it was the only copy.

Overall, a good straightforward clean hotel to stay at with conventient internet connection.

Baymont Inn Houston Brookhollow: Top class museum in Houston

I stayed they a night before leaving for the Dominican Republic. It was very easy and stress free to leave my car at the cheap hotel for the duration of my trip. A shuttle picks you up at the hotel and brings you right to the airport at your departure area. They also pick you up and bring back in a very timely fashion. It was very nice.

There are good facilities in hotel include Outdoor Pool, Guestrooms, Coffeemakers and Breakfasts.

Woodlands Resort: Luxurious resort, relaxing, trees and lakes

This resort is just thirty minutes from the George Bush airport (IAH), and once you enter the area, you notice the very nice treelined pathways and the nice feel of the area.

The guestrooms are basically like your home or cottage in the "woods" and they all have the comforts of home. You feel like you're in your own country home and it is nice walking along the pathways. The rooms are also cleaned promptly by the staff.

The resort has two championship courses where you can play while your wife enjoys the Woodlands Spa - or the other way around if your wife is the golfer, hehehe.

For kids, they have the wonderful Forest Oasis Waterscape where you will find the double helix water slide and an underwater island!

The hotel is also near the Woodland Mall which is very upscale and surrounded by expensive classy houses.

Definitely, a nice getaway for the family and a relaxing reprieve from downtown Houston.

Wonderful "woodlands", lots of trees and refreshing/relaxing lakes

Hampton Inn: Plastic!!!

You can call 1.800.hampton to make your reservation, although one wonders why you would bother. The only thing you can describe this place as is a bed to rest your weary head after a transatlantic flight.

We waited over an hour and a half for the Courtesy Bus to pick us up. We arrived at Houston Airport at around 7pm and did't get into the room until 9pm. Far too long to wait.

Breakfast was appalling. Plastic plates, styrofoam cups, plastic knives and forks. Even the food was plastic, or so it seemed. There was a *sausage* on offer which looked like it had been trodden on by an exceptionally hefty horse. The *egg* was round and rubbery, nothing soft and tempting about THIS egg. I suppose you could say we ate it because it was included in the price and I was desperately hungry, but honestly, this was really beyond the pale. Probably the worst food I have ever had ANYWHERE in the world and certainly in a hotel.

The price of the room was a hefty $134, add taxes and a paltry $2.06 for a phone call and you got a bill for $158.84. Far too much in my opinion. The staff didn't even LOOK at you when you were talking to them, only went *uh huh* and *mm hmm* in that irritating way, too busy talking amongst themselves to pay attention to you. If this had been a low budget hotel, I could have understood the *fast throughput* attitude, but it wasn't.

Absolutely none whatsoever. I wouldn't have spent a second night there if you had paid ME!!!

Regency Inn: Great Hotel near Hobby aiport

This hotel was a great find! Clean, well-appointed, spacious, and just all-around a very nice place to stay. The bed was very comfortable and the air conditioner was quiet---unlike so many hotels I've stayed in recently. Also the guest laundry was free instead of coin-operated machines! WOW! Only two small things that could be improved....the shower curtain needed to be replaced (had small mildew spots on it and the outdoor pool was kind of dirty.

Free laundry...with detergent supplied! Wow!

The Woodlands Waterway Marriott: Excellent Marriott Located In The Woodlands!

This hotel is actually located 30-45 minutes north of Houston in the suburban community of The Woodlands. Opened in 2002, the hotel has a very modern decor; nice, plush sofas & chairs are located in the lobby. The back of the lobby has large windows that let in the pleasant natural light. Even the front desk is very modern looking, as it has individual stations for each employee to assist guests. The rooms are also have a very modern feel, with new, almost boutique hotel-like furniture. The 2 times I have stayed here, the beds were extremely confortable, & the bathrooms were spotless with clean showers & great marble countertops. Try to request a room over looking the pool, which gives you a balcony with an excellent view of the lovely, albeit flat, North Houston piney woods. The pool is very long for swimming laps, & is heated for those few days it is chilly in this part of the country. There is also a nice hot tub located beside it. The workout facility is a bit small, but extremely clean, & offers machines & free weights for working out. The restaurant has a wonderful buffet breakfast, but can be a little pricey at $12 per person. On the weekends though they often have cheaper rates that include the breakfast. The location of the hotel is really good. It's right in front of a stop on The Waterway, a recently developed stream that runs along several popular shopping & dining sites in the area. And there is also a walkway to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, a large outdoor entertainment complex that holds many events & concerts throughout much of the year. The staff is super friendly & very helpful with anything you may need during your stay. Generally during weekdays rates can be anywhere from $150-$200, but on the weekends the rates are usually considerably cheaper, unless there is a big event going on in the area. Self parking is free of charge, with valet parking also available for a fee.

I think this hotel's great location is it's greatest asset. With The Waterway just to the back, a walkway to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion, and loads of shopping nearby, it is a great, central place to stay at.

Places to stay

I would like to make a general comment on places to stay. It is extremely important to locate the hotel you will be staying at. The city does not have a big tourist industry by comparison. Therefore we do not have a specific area that would be recommended as a safe bet. I would suggest places such as the galleria area if feasable. If not then a safe bet would be on the outskirts of the city were the prices are a lot better. This would require a little investigation to the part of town. I would recommend staying near Intercontinental Airport but not near Hobby Airport. There are other areas such as Clear Lake (near NASA) that I would recommend.
In general please research the area and if anyone needs help then I would greatly offer a quick insight to different areas. I have been contacted and have responded. You may contact me via e-mail - ricardo_j_m@excite.com as an alternate mode of contact.

The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center: Escape from the city

My fiance and I went here for New Years Eve.. (well thats when he became my fiance). We had a suite, which is really a two story apartment.. it was HUGE.. too bad we didn't have any friends that wanted to drive up and fill it.. and the bathroom was dinky.. I had hoped for more for a suite..
But the spa was fabulous.. the grounds were serene.. the ducks kept getting in the way of some nervous words..

There is a fabulous pool, but being January, I could not indulge. Between the golf, the spa and the pool.. this must be a great escape in the summer!

There is an amazing pool with waterslides and stuff. The ladies spa is top notch as well.
My only complaint was that the food was not too great. It was bland and the menu not very exciting.
