Convenient Location, Renovation Due

I was able to get a great deal at this hotel from friends when some of my family members came into town. It was extremely convenient since they would be going to Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, and the hotel is connected to Methodist via an indoor walkway. This alone made the hotel worthwhile. And the Metro Lightrail has a stop right outside the hotel, which is wonderful if you need to head downtown. Now, keeping in mind that the hotel has a major renovation in the works, it has many physical problems that are just not up to Marriott standards. The lobby is a little small, but set up nice, with beautiful marble floors and walls, and the wall facing out to the Med Center is made of glass, which lets in plenty of sunlight during the day. But the furniture is old and worn looking, and in need of replacement. And the escalator leading up to the second floor and the restaurants was broken the entire time. The restaurants, there are 3 of them, serve an excellent variety of food, and the wait staff are very friendly and efficient. But again, the decor and furniture is begging to be put out of it's misery. The room, well, let's just say this renovation better be a good one. Furniture was worn, carpet was stained, and the bathroom was very clean, but needed a facelift. Pool area is pretty nice, indoor pool, and a large outside deck. The front desk, bellman, and valet were all very helpful. The hotel offers a shuttle for guests to go back and forth around the area. So all and all, I would say that staying here is pretty much all about location, location, location! Hopefully a good renovation will restore this hotel physically to Marriott standards, and we can see a better review months down the road.
