by ska80

hi every body
This is the first time to post here, I need you help . I'm planning to make long trip around USA ,I will start from suger land, texas ,Houston to NewYork the questions are:
- what is the best Transportation I can use I mean bus or train if there is web site also it will help.
-which kind of city you advise me to visit it or pass through.

Many Thanks Beforehand

Re: Trip from Houston to NewYork

www.amtrak.com if you want to travel by train
www.greyhound.com if you want to travel by bus

unlike in Europe, the train system in the USA isn't the most modern

southwest airline is a good cheap airline too. http://www.southwest.com/ west of the Miss River there are some long distances, and you may not want to take a bus.

It would be easier if you had a general area you were going to go. If you're going...say Chicago to Seattle, you can take the amtrak all the way. Other spots the bus is better. It'll be easier along the eastern coast, but it's more crowded there and expensive too.

Amtrak is more expensive, but I think it would be worth it. You can also buy multi-stop tickets so that you can stay a reasonable amount of time in each city.
How about this:
Take the Sunset Limited east from Houston (Amtrak station Downtown) to New Orleans. Then head north on the City of New Orleans line to Memphis, then up to Chicago. Then take the Capitol Limited to Cleveland, Pittsburgh and onto Washington, DC. Then take a train north to Baltimore, Philadelphia and onto NYC.
You'll miss stuff in between these places, but you can always rent a car if you have the money.

Another option I just found out about yesterday is the Megabus is here now, like the one in UK. www.megabus.com (I think)

I know it's in Chicago and goes to many other cites from there, and it's in maybe a couple dozen cities. Much cheaper alternative than greyhound. FOr instance a one way form Milwaukee to Chicago is at the most $3.....the amtrak between them must be $15-$20 I'm guessing.

Anything You Want, Under One BIG Roof!

by H-TownJourneyman about The Galleria

The Galleria Mall is by far the biggest mall in Houston, and one of the largest in the United States. It has been a fixture in town for over 30 years now, and is the cornerstone of the Uptown District shopping mecca. And after several expansions and renovations over the years, it is truly THE mega-mall of Houston. Several big department stores are located within it, including Macy's and Nordstrom's, along with 100's of retail stores such as Banana Republic and Abercrombie & Fitch. Many upscale stores like Tiffany & Co., Gucci, and Versace have locations here. The food court is huge! Whether you feel like fast food, or a fine dining experience, you have have plenty to select from. There are 2 Westin Hotels within the Galleria, and if you feel up to it, there is an ice skating rink right in the middle of it all. Pretty much anything you could ever want to shop for will be located right here. Generally the prices at the Galleria are a little higher than other shopping locations throughout town. But if convenience is what you are looking for, it's all right here!

Mouthwatering Cajun Seafood!

by H-TownJourneyman about Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

Pappadeaux is a fantastic Cajun seafood restaurant, and part of the Pappas Restaurants chain. I just have to say, out of all the restaurants in Houston, this is one of, if not my favorite place to eat at! If you like Cajun food, or if you enjoy seafood, you need to at least try this restaurant! First of all, the atmosphere can be considered as busy, but festive, as I have rarely been to a Pappadeaux and it not be at least fairly crowded. Around lunch and dinner times, this place is packed! Sometimes the wait can be a little long, but it's worth it! The food, yes, thats what we are here for! It's excellent! For starters, they have a long list of appetizers. Everything from fried alligator to boudin sausage is served up, all a really good beginning for the meal. They have some great salads, and their gumbo soup is outstanding! If you feel like a sandwich, they have first-rate Poboys here. For main entrees, well, where do I begin?! Oysters, Catfish, Salmon, Shrimp, Crab, all prepared in a variety of styles. (I prefer blackened, but to each his own!) They also have fresh lobster and steaks on the menu as well. A good option if you want to have a little of everything is to get one of their combo platters. And with some to-die-for desserts such as Key Lime Pie and Vanilla Cheesecake, you will most certainly have to loosen your belt to accommodate your huge belly! :) Pappadeaux is by no means a cheap place to eat, but I think you will agree with me that after you finish your meal, it will be money well spent! I have 2! The Opelousas Fillet - A blackened Catfish fillet with oysters & crabmeat and shrimp

The Orleans Fillet - A chargrilled fish fillet with crawfish & crabmeat, and with a garlic butter sauce

Ok, I'm officially hungry!!! :)

Astros Field (formerly Enron Field)

by keeweechic

In 2002 the Astros bought back the naming rights to the field after the collapse of Enron. The field is home to the Astros baseball team. The first game played here was between the Astros and the New York Yankees. The field has a retractable room for indoor/outdoor playing.
