by listenandlearn

We know that in Houston there are a handful international airport (s). We are in search of a cheap air fare from Houston to Barcelona some time for the month of April 2006. Does anyone know of cheap recommendable air fares to Barcelona¿ Should you have a website that would be brilliant sending it as well. Many thanks to all!

Houston has only one international airport: Bush Intercontinental. See http://hou.houstonairportsystem.org/ which is the website for all three of Houston's airports.

In addition to checking for flights from Bush, you might also look at DFW (Dallas/Ft. Worth), which is just 250 miles (400 km) to the north and a huge international airport in its own right.

I don't think there are any non-stops from houston to barcelona; I think you might have to fly american out of dallas, either driving up or flying in from houston. Or, you could fly on continental, into MADRID, going through new york from houston. Continental isn't cheap though; I don't know how much a flight on American would be, I only fly Continental internationally.

Take the time to compare prices and check several ways to get there. Houston-New York-Barcelona or Houston to London or Madrid then to Barcelona. expedia.com does good price comparisons for Houston to Europe then look on Easyjet website and other European carriers and check prices from London/Madrind to Barcelona.

Hello TXgal (Elizabeth),
Many thanks for your brilliant suggestions, how we wish we could follow through however, our case would be a bit different as we will be "per say", relocating and such as easyjet, they do have limited weights and size of luggages...so many thanks again, that was very sweet of you! :)

Houston has, like the majority of major-cities in North America, one international airport;George Bush Intercontinental. From Houston, you can fly non-stop now, to Madrid, and make the neccessary connection to Barcelona,on Continental Airlines. When it comes to major-aiports in Texas, most people automatically think of DFW International Airport for international travel because of its massive size, but the truth of the matter is, DFW is primarally a major-domestic hub! DFW has only 29 non-stop international destinations, compared too 73 at IAH! For more information, go to continental.com.

Many thanks to each and everyone of you folks who input suggestions and attached websites. Certainly appreciate that very much! By casually mentioning it at a conversation, one of our good friends who works for Air-France-KLM has made arrangements taking me as her buddy pass from Houston into Barcelona. Thanks folks!

Travel Tips for Houston

Sam Houston Race Park

by H-TownJourneyman

Sam Houston Race Park is located Northwest of town just off of Beltway 8. It features Throughbred and Quarter Horse racing throughout the year, and television simulcasts from tracks around the U.S. The entire seating area is indoors, which can be quite beneficial, especially during the heat of Houston summers. They have luxury boxes available for purchase if you wish to watch the races in style. The crowd here is as varied as they come. You will see people here in anything from sleeveless shirts to three-piece suits. On the weekends they generally have food and drink specials, which can make the atmosphere more like a lounge or large pub than a horsetrack. It can be a fun experience, even if you are not interested in betting on the races. Frequently after the races are finished, they will have a music concert, and occasionally a fireworks show. Throughbred races are generally held from Fall to Spring, with Quarter Horse races held over the summer months. Parking is $3, and the have valet service for $6, with general admission being $3.

a very hip club

by John_P_LSU about Sambuca Jazz Cafe

Sambuca is a stylish spot, a place to be seen in. Its big, its noisy, with a really cool vibe. Its decor is quite unique. I love the cigar bar! There are some booths that you can semi-privately enjoy your date. Good jazz too!

Pretty Good BBQ

by topmarmot about Big Daddy's

Decor is a mixture of soda fountain and 60's and 70's rock posters. The soundtrack is firmly rooted in that era. Expect no more than 15 minutes between Led Zep tunes.

The bbq meats are good, the sauce slightly sweet and very smoky in flavor. I recommend the ribs and the spicy sausage. Also try their dirty rice.

Rothko Chapel

by rsleisk

I remember going to the Rothko Chapel as a teenager. My then girlfriend told me a story of an old man that was run over by a car and killed not too far from the museum. She told me this story before we got there. She swore the last time she was there she saw the old man's face in the three panels in the picture below.

After hearing her story I was obviously skeptical...but when I stared into the dark, sweeping brush strokes of the Rothko painting, I began to see the old man myself! Maybe this was only an exercize in the powers of suggestion, but all I can say is I saw the man in the painting walking with a cane.

I don't know if there ever was a man killed nearby but it made an impression on me. The chapel is a great place to zone out!
