The Byron Nelson Championship-2008
The Byron Nelson Championship* is held each year, attracting many of the top golfers. In fact, Tiger Woods won the purse in 1997. Unfortunately he was not playing this year due to having surgery.
The Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas located in Irving, Tx. hosted the event. The par-70 course was beautiful and had just undergone a multi-million dollar renovation.
Hundreds of people attended; many were pretty young ladies parading at the scene with colorful little sun-dresses, which of course got second glances from the guys!
My husband had been given tickets for the Third Round on Saturday, April 26. Not being golfers, I doubt we would have attended otherwise. The temperature was a glorious 80 degrees with a cloud canopy--it was our first opportunity to attend a championship and happily, the sun was not merciless that day.
After security checked our purses we boarded the shuttle--there was no way to sneak a camera into the grounds. Not that I even contemplated it!
We were situated on the 17th hole, giving us a wide view of the play. Not having brought chairs, we spent several hours seated on the grass. This spot had a great vantage point, though, because we were in the front row of spectators.
Adam Scott (pictured) from Queensland, Australia was in the #1 position at this point in the championship and eventually won the game and the hefty purse. I borrowed this picture from the internet. If you'd like to attend, see the website below for more info.
*The championship, named after well-known golfer, Byron Nelson, used this popular sport to fund a nonprofit organization known as Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers.
Their mission has three parts: provide therapy for troubled kids and families; help with education for at-risk children and their families and share what is learned. Over the years $100 million dollars has gone to charitable causes! Wow, that's amazing!
