For anyone wanting an "musication/vacation" this year, the Hill Country Acoustic Music Camp offers a spectacular deal - $325.00 per person for five days of instruction in either fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, voice, dobro, banjo. The instructors are seasoned veterans and come from as far away as D.C.
You can literally walk in not knowing how to play an instrument and go home having learned the technique. For those with experience, you'll pick up additional ways to improve.
The Schreiner University in Kerrville offers lodging package, or there are a number of hotels, RV and campgrounds in the area.

Special note: this annual camp is running at the same time as the Kerrville Folk Festival, so you can really take in a lot of music this year! Kerrville is easily accessible to San Antonio (60 miles nw) and about 100 miles sw of Austin. Right off I-10. Kerrville is a friendly community of 20,000+ and what is special about this small city is it has so much to do - great restaurants along the Guadalupe River, lots of arts influence from galleries to museums to theatre, and the scenic natural setting of hills and water.

Kerrville - Kerrville Folk festival (Big Folk)

Sidney Baker St (Hwy 16 south of I10) was under construction, but that sure didn't stop all the people driving south to Quiet Valley Ranch on Hwy 16 south of town. Kerrville is surrounded by pretty hills, is intersected by the Guadalupe River, and has friendly locals. It doesn't have all its buildings covered in limestone facing like in Fredericksburg, although Sporty's, where I ate an excellent gourmet burger, did. Unfortunately a new Home Depot blocks a lovely view around the corner from Sporty's. I didn't take a pic, since it was heartbreaking to see. Instead, you can see pics from the drive to the festival. (And my festival pics are in movie format, so its the wrong format for VT).

Once you go into the entrance, they say "Welcome Home". Speed limit in the grounds is 5 mph. The festival goes from the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend for 18 days. I was there on day 2. That's called Big Folk. Little Folk is 4 days in September for the Kerrville Wine and Music Festival.
