I love Laredo's unique culture but that is also what drives me crazy. It is hard for "outsiders" to come live here but..... it's a nice place.

This photo is near bridge #1 between the US & Mexico. The sight of people crossing illegally is common but don't take pictures at the bridge - your camera will be confiscated!

"Los dos Laredos / The two Laredos"

Nuevo Laredo es una ciudad mexicana en la frontera con EU y del otro lado se halla Laredo. AsI que ir al otro lado del rio e ir al otro Laredo se volvio sinonimo en todo Mexico: "El se fue pa'l otro Laredo". Ahora, por extension, el otro Laredo es cualquier lugar de Estados Unidos. Tambien es posible oir laredo fuera de terminos fronterizos: "En esta hoja lees este laredo y escribes del otro."

Asi que cada vez que escuches la frase "cada historia tiene dos lados", recuerda que tambien hay dos Laredos! (ver mi pagina del otro Laredo!)

Nuevo Laredo is a Mexican city in the border with the U.S. and at the other side (side = lado, in Spanish) of the river is Laredo. Since lado and Laredo sound similar it became a word game in all Mexico. To go to the other side (lado) and to go to the other Laredo became synonyms: "He went to the other Laredo". Now, by extension, the other Laredo is any place in the United States. It is also possible to hear laredo out of border terms: "In this piece of paper you read this laredo and write in the other."

So whenever you hear the phrase "every story has two sides" (two lados), remember that there are also two Laredos! (see my other Laredo page!)
