Historic But Pricey

If you are on a budget, you may want to just look around the Gage as a Thing to Do and stay elsewhere. It is pretty, with great woodwork in the lobby and it is historic. It was built in the 1920's and was one of the better hotels in this part of Texas. Today I prefer the Holland in Alpine or the Paisano in Marfa.

Best Hotel in Big Bend area

Clean and charming, Dog friendly hotel. Perfect for a west Texas Wedding and reception (a couple was getting married when we were there). Nice Putting course and garden walks available. They had earplugs by the bed but we never heard the train.

Unique Quality: Views go on forever around the desert landscape. Inside of hotel felt like true west Texas culture. Television available in the library. Breakfast provided (family style-around a big table). Houses, casitas, small affordable rooms to rent with beautiful landscape and pool, excellent bar, and four star level restaurant. Spa treatments and exercise center available.

Excellent resatuarnt in a tiny town

This restaurant would fit in in any big city, but happens to be in a tiny town miles from anywhere. SW Texas/cowboy decor, but very restrained. Excellent menu with many dishes. It's worth detouring if you're heading to Big Bend, Alpine or Marfa to eat at the Gage. Cabrito (goat) Yummy!
