Nice place with an assortment of housing. One of the buildings was constructed on site to mimic the old limestone block style of the Hill Country, some are farm houses that have been moved from elsewhere, and one is a reconditioned barn (moved?). Clean and comfy, if a little pricey. The full breakfast is good, and the staff are very accommodating. The whole place is non-smoking, except for their tavern, "Tavern in the Gruene", which they have on the grounds. It has live local music frequently, but when I walked in there it was full of cigarette smoke and dingy-looking. Not to my liking. Forget their "Tavern"; drive a mile up the country road to "Gruene Hall" for excellent music and ambience in Texas' oldest dancehall. It's a smoking facility, but it has plenty of ventilation and much more elbow room.
