oh good grief!
The movie "Paris, Texas" was banned in the city of Paris, Texas shortly after its box office release in 1984. I'm not really sure why. The film itself was filmed in Waxahachie not Paris. The movie was the Winner of the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1984 and tells the haunting story of an amnesiac's struggle to rebuild his shattered life. Sam Shepard wrote the screenplay. Paris Texas was put on the map.
This east Texas town had an incredible fire that burned almost the entire city in 1916. They had to rebuild just about everything there, including over half of the business district.
This fire and Duane Allen (a member of "the Oak ridge Boys" musical group were about the only things I saw souvenirs of in this town. Strange, especially when there is an "eiffel tower" with a cowboy hat on it right outside of town!
