Any places in Port Aransas or close to go snorkeling from the beach ?

The beach at Port Aransas is sandy & the waves are non-stop....so visability isn't good at all & you'd get thrashed by waves. Also, the fish aren't the most colorful in the world.
Honestly, you'd be better off bird watching or fishing around Port Aransas. If you want to snorkle in Texas, fresh water is better. Places like the San Marcos River or even Barton Springs in Austin.
The only place I know that has decent diving in Texas are the Flower Gardens off the coast, but you have to get there by boat.

Travel Tips for Port Aransas

"Port A - there is a car ferry from Aransas Pass"
In order to get to the good beach (grey water though), you need to take 361 from Aransas Pass. The car ferry surprised my hostess, who was used to Corpus Christi or South Padre beaches - no ferry there. We took the ferry as pedestrians, then took a taxi to and from the beach. Not cheap - the taxi was $8 each way, although parking where we were in the 'centre of things' was only for those with special passes.
Despite that, I enjoyed our three hours on the beach.
