Litterally in the middle of nowhere
"San Angelo is halfway between San Antonio/El Paso"
on a E/W route and midway between Abilene and Big Spring on a N/S route. It's in the middle of nowhere in Texas. It's also home to the Concho River Pink Pearl, a freshwater pearl that grows no where else in the world. These little gems were first noted in a Spanish explorer's journal and were considered a "folk tale" until 1969 when a fellow went wading in the Concho and actually found the little mussels that create these gems. They are almost gone now due to over-harvesting. it's strange that something so rare would have such a short lifespan ...just four decades.
