Travel Tips for San Antonio

San Fernando Cathedral

by GUYON

It is the oldest parish church in Texas. It has been built in 1738 by the Settlers arriving from the Canary Islands, and remodeled in 1868.
During the battle of Alamo, Santa Anna used the cathedral as observation post.
The purported remains of Travis, Crockett and Bowie are kept in a marble casket at the rear of the church.

115 Main Plaza on N Main Avenue

I don't know the exact name,...

by CJD68

I don't know the exact name, but there is an Irish Pub right along the Riverwalk. For a bit of the bar singing, beer drinking casual fun, you can't beat it.
The people are all there for a good time - singing, laughing & story telling, you have a variety of beverages to choose from, the atmosphere is very authentic and it is crowded beyond belief. Anything goes. The norm leans more toward the casual.

Dinner With a View

by TexasDave about Tower of the Americas Restaurant

Enjoy haute cuisine 700 ft up in the air in this rotating restaurant. A limited menu that covers all the food groups (beef, pork, fish, chicken, etc) with nice presentation. There's an extra $1.75 elevator fee. The best time to dine is obviously just before dusk so you can watch the sunset.

The Alamo

by Tom_Fields

No visit to San Antonio is complete without touring this, one of America's most revered historic places. Here, in 1836, Colonel Travis and his small rebel force fought to the death against the Mexican Army, led by General Santa Anna.

This was one of the old Spanish missions built in this area during the 18th century. The Alamo is also the starting point of the Mission Trail. Check out the nearby monuments, too.

Paseo del Rio - the riverwalk....

by rhiannon1968

Paseo del Rio - the riverwalk. It's below street lovel, so yu can have a pleasant stroll a little away from the traffic and the smog. All along it there's restaurants, caf├ęs, shops, museums and hotels. See my travelogue for a map and description.
