San Antonio has a lot to offer. It depends on your interests.

Are you primarily interested in good food, musical entertainment (what kind?), best margaritas, Texas History, World Cultures, Mexican Culture, beautiful scenery, Religious History....it just depends.

For me, a 2 day trip would include the World Culture Center (just because I haven't seen it yet), el mercado, a stroll down the riverwalk...and some good food...probably lunch at The Original Mexican restaurant, Dinner at Paesano's or Budro's, some jazz and some drinks (all river walk activities), lunch the next day at El Mercado at Mi Tierra, and a dinner at La Fogata before I leave. I'd also try to squeeze in a moment at the Tower of the Americas to have a look around.

Sory I didn't respond very soon after you posted.
I did make the Riverwalk & Cyotey Ugly while in San Antonio though.
I spent a couple months in Beijing, & since the first of the year, I've been in Tirana, Albania. I sure will be glad to return to the 'Ol USofA.

Travel Tips for San Antonio

Can I help?

by TheWanderingCamel

Alamo City Amigos are volunteers who love their city and are proud to be part of a team working to keep it a great place to visit and to live. You'll see the Amigos in their distinctive turquoise shirts and straw hats all around the downtown area.

Ambassador Amigos are there to give assistance to visitors, to answer questions on anything and everything to do with the city - attractions, shopping, getting around, where to go and what to do. Even if you know just where you're going and how to get there, take a minute to say Hi! to one of these willing helpers, they're giving their time freely to make you feel welcome and everybody likes to know their efforts are appreciated.

Other Amigos give their time and effort to keeping the city looking good, sidewalks swept and litter-free, even landscaping city streets with plants and greenery. With so many of its citizens taking an active part in making sure the city presents a clean and smiling face to the world, is it any wonder San Antonio looks and feels like a city with a heart?

La Villita is a small restored village. It is close to the River Walk. The 'Little Village' is a nice extension of the River Walk. In the restored adobe buildings there are now craft shops and restaurants.

Great Tex Mex and atmosphere

by L-A about Alamo Cafe

This is more TexMex rather than true Mexican. Chicken chimichangas are good. I had chicken in a cheese sauce with rice and broccoli and iced tea. Nachos good, tortillas even better. Salsa not that great. Service and ambience were good. We were on the patio - which was good in the early evening (not too hot). They had a nice garden with fountain out back. Chicken with cheese sauce. But you have to like cheese! The tortillas (with a bit of butter) take the spicy edge off if you're not used to it.

Best dining experience in San Antonio

by Jefie about Acenar

This "modern" tex-mex restaurant is located on the not-so-touristy portion of the Riverwalk, and the food and ambience are pretty much as good as it gets. From the chips and salsa (ah man, that salsa...) all the way through dessert (creme brulee, mmmm), everything is delicious. Throw in a few mariachis and it might just be the greatest meal ever!! Las enchiladas verdes y el mole poblano de pollo son muy ricos!! And again, the salsa, I wish I could have bought a big bucket of it to bring back home!

San Antonio Riverwalk

One of the best places to eat, meet people, shop and just have a great time. From the waters of the San Antonio River spring forth a vibrant city rich in over three centuries of tradition!

According to legend, a Spanish missionary traveling through Texas came upon a tribe of Payaya Indians who lived among the wild grapes and Cypress Trees upon the banks of a sparkling oasis.

The oasis they had found was named Rio Saint Antonio de Padua, from whence The San Antonio River derives its name. Today you can dine at some of San Antonio's finest restaurants, or shop in style along The Riviera of Texas!
