Have dinner by the river walk...
by Matthew_B
Have dinner by the river walk at an outdoor restaurant. Enjoy the atmosphere of old Mexico and the company of a beautifull woman. The river walk is truly a magical place. During the Christmas season it is lit up like my eyes at the sight of my true love. You cannot find a more romantic place in Texas. As much as everyone may be tired of hearing it, my fondest memory of San Antonio is a person. Sitting in the 3rd row at the Majestic theatre with the most beautiful woman alive. My hand on her thigh enjoying the wonderfull music and peacefull setting. The San Antonio symphony may not be the best in the world, but with the right frame of mind and the right person at your side it can be magical at teh Majestic.
Well San Antonio is definately...

Well San Antonio is definately 'off the beaten path' for me. But for some strange reason I always had it on that mental list of American Cities I would like to visit some day. So I took my recent week off to do just that... visit San Antonio.
I have to admit that I liked San Antonio much more than I thought I would. It is a big city (8th largest in the USA I believe) but it has a small town atmosphere.Beyond the downtown and 'historic' area it is spread out into vaguely north, south, east and west sections. Even on what might have been a very busy day, '5 de Mayo', the traffic was manageable and not intimidating.
I would consider it a great family vacation destination. There is a lot to offer that would interest all age groups.
The Alamo of course is a 'National Shrine' in Texas, a unifying spiritual center for what it must mean to be Texan..... the last stand of Bowie and Davy Crockett. For the casual visitor however it may seem more like an interesting artifact of history.... the place where Santa Ana tried to hold that part of Mexico secure, and won an important battle against these 'gringo' invaders... (hehehe...sorry).. We were of course going to 'take' that piece of Mexico in the subsequent war.
Spread Out

San Antonio is a large city & spread out. Your best bet for travelling around the city is to rent a car. We do not have a subway or train system...the buses are yicky...and the taxis are few & expensive.
The best nan

We made it to Simi' Indian Restaurant just in time for the lunch buffet. They had about 15 minutes before they closed. I prefer to be there when a buffet is first put out but we had plenty to eat and the owner brought us fresh onion nan to the table. YUMMM
A friend that was with us had never tried Indian food but she thought it was very good.
