Upscale shopping center near airport
by lisa_lise about Quarry Market
The Quarry is a fairly comprehensive, upscale shopping center not that far from the airport. It has a theatre, Borders Bookstore, Whole Foods Grocery, jewelry stores, clothing boutiques, furniture stores, and restaurants like P.F. Chang's, Chili's, and J. Alexander's. For the full list, see web link below.
Great place to wander around. It's upscale, but prices are reasonable. The restaurant prices vary, the boutiques have higher prices typical of boutiques, and the chain stores have regular prices.
My Favorite in San-Antonio:
by iblatt about Boudro's on the Riverwalk
We strolled up and down the Riverwalk several times, we saw most restaurants fill up and then get empty, but Boudro's seemed to be full through the whole evening, even with a waiting list.
When we dined there we understood why. The food was absolutely delicious, and the Riverwalk ambience was at its best.
On the first page of the menu we read that Boudro's was established in 1986, in an historic Riverwalk building of the 19th century. At first it was called Boudreaux's and specialized in cajun cooking, but later expanded its menu to include many other dishes from the Southwest and Gulf region.
My Costillas de Res (braised beef shortribs osso-bucco-style) were simply wonderful. My friend, who ordered the "Niman Ranch lamb rib chops", swore that this was one of the best meals he had eve had.
The service was very friendly, and people watching on the Riverwalk was fun.
Craving a good Chinese?
by darthmilmo about China Inn
Give the bufee's a miss and head to this lovely chinese restaurant instead. The service is good, the food is excellent, and the price won't put a strain on your budget. Cashew Nut Shrip (extra spicy)
PowraChuting!
by TexasLinda
Wow! What a blast! For a speed freak like me, the ballooning was a bit low-key, but still enjoyable, but the powrachuting, now that was fun!
Costs around $65 for a 30-minute ride, but getting a sport pilot license isn't much trouble and you can get instruction on this little gadget quickly. We did barrel rolls and everything!
If you go to the Hill Country (San Antonio/Austin area) I highly recommend Steve, who owns Incredible Journeys. He's also the aerobatic world champion in powrachuting. He's been flying since age 7 and has flown just about everything. The ride he gave me was great!
