Always Pack Something for the Summer
by dtimoske
Any normal luggage will do. If you come in the summer, bring lots of walking shorts and short-sleeve shirts. Dress is very casual in San Antonio, and only in the nicest restaurants do you need to wear slacks or more formal attire. You'll also want to bring a swimsuit either to take in the sun's rays at the hotel park or in one of the cities several theme parks.
If you come in the winter, bring a mix of clothes. February tends to be the coldest month, but the temperature can vary greatly. It can be below freezing or it can be hot. I've been in San Antonio for Christmas where I've had to wear shorts is was so hot. Hard freezes happen about a few days every year, and snow is extremely rare. Whatever you don't bring, you can easily find. Definitely bring your camera. If you're a serious golfer, bring your clubs.
Schlitterbahn
by darthmilmo
Schlitterbahn is consider one of the best waterparks in the US, if not the world. This park is huge! There are three main sections to the park connected by shuttles. Don't expect to see it all up in a day. In the peak season, you can expect one or more hour waits in the popular rides. Alas, the waits are well worth it! Cool off w/ the kids on this incredible waterpark!
Eating steak in Texas...it's the right thing to do
by Bela_LUng about Lone Star Cafe
So I wanted a steak while in Texas and was sick of walking around the Riverwalk area with an empty stomach. So I ended up stopping at the Lone Star Cafe. Which we have back home....so that tells you how hungry I was! It was like "Beef damnit! I want beef now! GIMME BEEF!" It's almost crazy. Ok, well, it was indeed crazy.
So, here I was sitting on the second floor of the Lone Star eating a steak and watching people walk by along the river. Great stuff. The view was great. The food was ok I guess. Just as good as back home.
The menu at the Lone Star is pretty typical american. Beef, chicken, pasta, pizza, salads and some mexican styled foods (fajitas baby!). They serve booze too, so that helps with the shine.
I'd go to another place next time, just on the fact that I can go to the Lone Star while at home anytime. But if you need a bite to eat, this is definetly a good place to go to.
The cost is generally about 10 to 15 dollars per person plus booze. Fajitas.
On the Riverwalk
by Jefie about Rio Rio Cantina
There are lots of restaurants on the Riverwalk but they're not necessarily the best that San Antonio has to offer. Still, if you want to do the Riverwalk thing, Rio Rio Cantina is a pretty safe choice as it is not expensive, pretty good, and the location is great. If anything, you'll at least get a kick out of feeding the ducks and birds that are sure to surround your table (they love nachos!). Have a drink with friends and share a platter of Rio Rio Combination (nachos, quesadillas and flautas).
