Travel Tips for San Antonio
A Night of Fireworks!
by VeronicaG
On this recent visit to San Antonio we lodged at the Marriott River Walk. We viewed the magnificent New Year's Eve fireworks display from our balcony, atop the 21st floor. Below us, the entire city was lit up and sparkling in the night!
Each small community's display formed a vibrant ring of color around the horizon as we viewed the spectacle from our perch. Bright bursts of light punctuated the darkness time and again. I think it was the most beautiful display I've ever seen. Differing from the usual shows, these fireworks continued for quite a long time.
New Year's in San Antonio is a spectacular event!
Spanish Govenor's Mansion
by Yaqui
For obvious reasons, the Alamo is usually the first tourist spot that many tourist want to visit and second would be the River Walk. Well, for myself I wanted to see the Spanish Governors Palace. This was contrusted before the Alamo, before Texas declared their independance and was the Capital building for the region Tejas, better know as Texas. Built to be a Presidio in 1722 for the military and Capitian who usually functioned as the Governor, it's duty was to protect Mission de Valero (Alamo) and the community of Villa de Bejar and Villa de San Fernando (San Antonio). It was ordered by the King of Spain in 1772 to become the new Capital of Texas and serve as a government building until 1821 when the Spanish government ended. It was very intereting to visit the facility and to be able to actual walk through it by myself. Some very old furnishings and exhibits and I found being at such peach inside the chapel. I think it is well worth seeking it out!
Located 105 Plaza de Armas.

Great organic food
by kyoub about Whole Foods Cafe
The best food that we found was at the Whole Foods Market and Cafe. Whole Foods Market is the world's leading retailer of natural and organic foods.
Their pizza was outstanding. If you like burrito's, this is your kind of place. There is also a full range of deli items that you can purchase to eat there are take out.
We ate there after doing some grocery shopping on our first night in the city. The next day we went there to purchase food for a picnic.
Mexican food the way it ought to be served!
by rsleisk about Pico de Gallo
Pico de Gallo is a raucous good time serving up Mexican food the way it ought to be served with Mariachis. The restaurant is located downtown but seems to be more of a locals hangout rather than a touristy place.
The food is excellent Tex-Mex, Mex-Tex food. There is usually a Mariachi band strumming away or a keyboardist mixing up his electronic takes on Mexican favorite songs. The place has a good and loud party atmosphere.
A bright, colorful and festive a fun place to eat. Enchiladas are superb!
The Alamo
by klj&a
Truthfully at first glance my first impression was, "Is that it?" I was picturing a huge fortress. The fact that it is a part of this country's history makes it a must see. It's free and has various actors dressed in the period walking about. You just need about 30 minutes at the most.
