During Fiesta parades like Battle of Flowers etcThere some floats that have princess. Yell out "Show Your Shoe!" at them and they'll show their shoe.Sometimes they'll have high heels, slippers, and in some cases they will be bare footed
Nix Professional Building
by Yaqui
Built in 1931 with an Art Deco architectural design. It was the first hospital and had the distinction of being the tallest skyscraper hospital with offices for doctors and its own parking garage in the states till Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza in Huston was built. What other unique characteristic is that from certain angles it has the illusion of a flat wall from the riverside. Just some neat information that the riverboat tour guides share. They are a wealth of local information if you every need to know more. Just ask them.

Skip the Riverwalk!!
by sonicliz about Don Pedro's
For a wonderful San Antonio dining experience, skip the Riverwalk! It's pricey and it's Mexican food lacks flavor. Make the drive to the south side for REAL Mexican food. The place is called Don Pedro's, on Military and Commercial. This has been a local favorite for years. You can see where the owners have had to build on new rooms to accomodate their growing fans. The restaurant has a large menu and excellent margaritas. I like the summer special because it's not too big and has a little of everything. The tostada plate is also a winner, and their tortilla soup is not bad either. All washed down with a frozen margarita or Mexican beer!
Excellent Italian Food
by lisa_lise about Carrabba's Italian Grill
This is my favorite Italian place. The lighting is somewhat dark, which makes it nice for an intimate date or cozy dinner with good friends. Dress is medium-range, somewhere between casual and dressy. If I wear jeans there, I'll usually wear them with some sort of strappy heel or something. They've taken my favorite dish off the menu, but they'll still make it on request. I think it's called Pasta Promodoro or something like that, but it's a bowl of penne pasta and pieces of spicy Italian sausage, and red pepper slices, topped with a mound of fabulous feta cheese. Most restaurants make this dish without the feta cheese, but the feta is what completes the dish. Yum! While you look over the menu, they bring you herb and olive oil dipping sauce and soft, fresh bread to munch on. This delicious bread is the reason I've been too full to try the desserts here...so far.
A Walk on the Riverwalk, or Paseo del Rio
by spgood301
If the Alamo is San Antonio's historic center, the Riverwalk is its entertainment heart. Indeed, most everyone seems to congregate on the Riverwalk, especially on Saturday nights.
Much of San Antonio's nightlife and many of the better restaurants are on the Riverwalk. It's also a beautiful place to just walk around, snap some some great pictures and take in the city. Please note that the Riverwalk is rather narrow in spots; you may have to squeeze past some people to get around, lest you fall in the river! Note especially several of the stone bridges that span the river; most are quite lovely in their own right. Christmas is an especially fine time to be on the Riverwalk - they hang the Christmas lights straight down from the trees, creating a wonderful effect.
As well as being lovely, the Riverwalk is lively too. It's got many terrific Mexican and Southwestern restaurants and several bars - both local and more touristy places like the Hard Rock Cafe and Coyote Ugly. Many of the hotels in town are at or near the Riverwalk, and it's got quite a few shopping opportunities too.
I found the Riverwalk to be a very charming place to just walk around. It's also a very romantic place - bring your special person with you; I'm sure they'll love it too. It's especially beautiful at night.
If you're in San Antonio, you'll end up at the Riverwalk not long after you get there. Take some time to soak it all in - it's a great experience.
