Riverwalk at night
My husband is currently in San Antonio for the military and I just found out I am pregnant. Since he won't be home until Dec, I am flying out there to surprise him. Any ideas on a good way to surprise him, or any resturants that would help me surprise him?

My suggestion would be a restaurant on the "River Walk"- check out possibilities on the web. The River Walk is thought my many to be "the envy of America"

I agree the only place to go for this is the River Walk. Try to book a night or two at the Hilton directly on the River Walk.
If you want to surprise him, as in not letting him know you are coming, then you need to get one of his buddies to make an excuse for them to go to the River Walk for a drink and then you be there and "whisk" him away.
The Riverwalk....will always be my favorite. It is a walkway, paved on both sides of the River. There are boat rides available, and both food and drink are available all up and down the Riverwalk. The Alamo, home of Texas' fight for Independence. And the night life, lots of parties for the public.
Friedrich Wilderness Park is an area with nature trails for bird watching and hiking. There were rare birds nesting there but I did not see them. Maybe next time. It is off of I-10 near Camp Bullis exit.
I arrived from El Paso on the Amtrak superliner "The Sunset Limited". This was an overnight journey.
The train arrived around 5am at San Antonios Sunset Station - the foyer is about the size of a classroom. I was welcomed with fresh coffee. The only thing is that because the station is so small, so few pasengers get off and the time in the morning - I found tha by the time I finished my coffee all of the taxis had left. The staff there are very helpful and will call one for you.
There are some really good, but expensive resturants along the riverwalk, just walk down and find something you like. Due to the vast Mexican population, the Mexican food (burritos, tacos, quesadillas) is damn good.
A nice sized zoo that is in the process of being up-dated and up-graded. They have a section where Australian lorries (a species of parrot) fly free and for $1 you can buy a small cup of nectar. You go into the enclosure, open the cup, and, Viola! there are half dozen lorries on your hand, arm, head, etc. looking for a drink.
There is also a butterfly enclosure.
Admission: Adults $8, children 3-11, $6.
