Travel Tips for San Antonio

Bring an extra piece of luggage

by kyoub

Bring an empty piece of luggage with you because you will need it to take everything back home with you, that you bought here. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. Everything else you can buy after you arrive.
There are so many malls, you can shop until you drop. You will want to take a lot of pictures so don't forget to bring your camera. Don't forget to use the sunscreen that you brought or bought.

Sonora Caverns

by darthmilmo

The Caverns of Sonora is one of the most beautiful sights i've ever seen in my life. It's a bit far from San Antonio, but still doable. One of the top 4 caverns in the United States, the caves are located near the town of Sonora, a few miles from I-10 (between Ft Stockton and San Antonio). There are 3 types of tours. The first two don't require prior appointments. The first tour (cost $14) lasts 1hr 15min The second tour (cost $20) lasts 1hr 45min. The second tour covers most, if not all, of what the first tours covers. The third type of tours, the wild tours, take up to 4 hours (cost $75-125) and require a couple of weeks advance notice. Personally, the second tour is the best for the price/time. You get to see most of the amazing attractions and you don't have to cough up the big bucks. Some of the attractions include the crystal room, the ice room, the coral/popcor formations, the butterfly, the big bacon, and the ice room.

food and atmosphere - get there early!

by barbipez about Mi Tierra

as with local hispanic culture and tradition, you walk into a fiesta of color! pinatas and millions of lights hang beautifully from all the ceilings. wait staff are dressed in traditional wear. the margaritas rock! the food is amazing. quick service without hurting the quality of the food.

they're alwasy busy, so it's good to try to call ahead if you're in a large party. i had the enchilada en mole with chicken. great! came with refried beans and rice, with warm homemade tortillas. add a strawberry frozen rita to that and you got a winner of a meal.

my mom loves their fajitas.

tex-mex

by doug48 about republic of texas

the republic of texas is located in the heart of the river walk entertainment area. the republic of texas offers good tex-mex food at moderate prices. a great place to have a margarita or a lone star and people watch.

Buckhorn Saloon & Museum

by Yaqui

This was a real awesome place to see. I wasn't sure if I wanted to venture in, but I did anyway and I thought the place was really cool. Lots of things to look at, a bar to have a beer, snack bar in the corner to eat dinner or lunch. Lots of tables to sit at and a gift shop in the front. Oh there is a museum on the facility to explore. Cost just a little, but might be fun to look around
