Fiesta Badges
by ChartIt
Last year I experinced Fiesta for the first time. It is a week long party basically, and it can be rather expensive. You can go to a variety of themed parties, which do charge admission as they are generally fundraisers for various organizations. Most of these events sell a pin or badges. I didnt understand why everyone had so many pins; but they tend to be badges of honor for people. Sometimes people wear them to show that they were involved in the planning, organizing, or just enjoying of various Fiesta events. Some people have dozens, I just got one. For my first fiesta! I admit I "shopped" around a little among the Fiesta events I had attended. I picked the one from the King Williams Fair. So incase you were wondering what everyone was wearing and why! Now you know what they are and that you to can enjoy this tradition.
Tower Life Building
by Yaqui
Build 1927-1929 by Ayers & Ayers architectural firm. It was known as being the tallest building in San Antonio from 1929-1968. It is an eight sided neo-gothic brick and terra-cotta tower with actual gargoyles. It served as the first Sears, Roebuck and Company store. It was said that it cost almost $3 million to build it and it sold for only $27,000. It eventually became part of the Hilton Hotels in 1956 and converted to apartments in 1966. Some of the other development that was supposed to take place did not happen because of the depression. The tower part was renamed to The Transit Tower for the San Antonio Transit Company, in the 1940’s. Now it is called the Tower Life Insurance Company and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
For a Taste Of The Amazon...
by VeronicaG about The Rainforest Cafe
UPDATE: While visiting this New Year, the grandkids ALL loved the Rainforest Cafe. Check out the new pics (#2-#5)!
This is a great place to bring the kids! Not only does it feel like a visit to a tropical rain forest, but animated critters make your dining an interesting adventure.
Our first visit to a Rainforest Cafe was while we were living in New Jersey. It was packed with diners--this restaurant was no different. There was a long waiting list since this was on the weekend.
We decided to park ourselves on the outdoor terrace at a table beneath a wide umbrella. It was a very hot day and the shade was appreciated. There were only four tables, so you'd be fortunate to grab one! Our meal was served promptly by a friendly waiter.
The main dining area was on street level, with a gift shop below at the River Walk entrance. Items such as t-shirts, mugs, stuffed animals, toys, candy, videos and such were imprinted with the Rainforest logo and available for purchase.
Whether you're traveling with children or in twos, I think you'd like the Rainforest Cafe. Hours for the Cafe are Sun.-Thurs. 11 am-10 pm; gift shop 10 am-10pm. Fri.&Sat. the Cafe hours are 11 am-11 pm; gift shop 10 am-11 pm.

This is the front of the Alamo, the scene of the Battle of the Alamo, on March 6, 1836. This is were 182 Texans faced the 2000 strong Mexican army of General Santa Ana. They all lost their lives, delaying Santa Ana's army long enough for Texas to reorganize and strike back at San Jacinto.
