Hilton Palacio Del Rio
by Yaqui
Built in 1968 for the World’s Fair San Antonio. It was built in record time for the fair because each room was built as a complete separate unit or modular complete with furnishings then stacked and secured.
On the corner of South Alamo and West Market Street
Amazing!

My best friend and I stayed at the Hilton Palacio del Rio for three incredible nights and enjoyed every bit of it. First of all, the location could not be better. The Palacio del Rio is located on a bustling section of the riverwalk lined with restaurants, shops and clubs, unlike many other Riverwalk hotels such as the Holiday Inn and Crown Plaza which are located in much more quiet and isolated areas of the river. In fact, most of San Antonio's most popular tourist attractions are within walking distance. The hotel also offers two restaurants, an Irish pub, a piano bar/lounge and an extremely resonable priced gift shop. And the rooms! Not all that big, but very nice. Each one is equipped with a balcony and a cast iron patio set. One side of the hotel faces the riverwalk, but unfortunately it is an extra $45 so we just opted for the opposite side. But we still had an incredible top-floor view of The Tower of Americas, Alamodome, Rivercenter, and even the roof of the Alamo. The rooms are also equipped with two sinks, which proved very convienent for the two of us, and Neutrogena toiletry products. I also loved the fact that each bed had 4 very comfy pillows. But I do have one complaint: Parking!!! The only available parking is in a city parking garage more than a block away from the hotel! And to make matters worse, it costs $15 a night to park it yourself and $28 a night for valet! Ridiculous! And one night it seemed as if everyone was leaving the garage at the same time so we were forced to sit in the 'traffic' for 25 minutes to get out of the garage! But despite the horrendous parking situation, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. The rates are extremely reosonable and the hotel is very nice, but not too insanely luxurious. A great place to stay!
NIce Hotel, Great Location

We stayed at the HPDR 08.11 -- 08.15.04 for our first trip to San Antonio. The location is right on the River walk, and only a short distance to "restaurant row," the Alamo, boat rides, and other attractions. We paid $109 for a standard room overlooking the Riverwalk, which is extremely reasonable by NY standards and indeed, we found the entire city reasonably priced. The HPDR's biggest negative is that it is a chain hotel, and while the decore of the lobby and rooms are very nice, the cookie cutter image is obvious.
Like the previous reviewer, I highly recommend Boudro's Restaurant, which is on the Riverwalk and only a short distance from the hotel. I also recommend Durty Nellie's Irish Pub (located on the Riverwalk level of the HPDR) for the some singalong fun of an adult nature.
Beautiful hotel and views!

What a beautiful view of the Riverwalk and the lights of downtown San Antonio. Located conveniently from
everything. Hotel personnel cordial and quick and courteous answering all your questions. Had a fabulous time at the Placio del Rio and in San Antonio. Definitely would stay there again!
Great location and Service

Loved the location with a direct entrance to the Riverwalk, across the street from Hemisphere Park, two blocks from the Alamo, and within easy walking distance to the King William district. We had a king bed, riverview room, with a nice sized balcony to watch the action below. We had a problem with the a/c one evening, and it was fixed - with a smile -within fifteen minutes of our call. The staff was always pleasant and always helpful. We would go back. Nov. 2004

We only had a few days to spend in San Antonio and we definetely picked the right hotel. Everyone and I mean everyone wanted to be sure our stay was a good one. Beautiful facility and located right on the Riverwalk. We could walk to the Alamo bowl, convention center, Alamo, and shopping. Great restaurants in the hotel and lots of fun night life. When you come to San Antonio you must stay here.

GOING GREEN IN SAN ANTONIO!!
by aphrodyte
My family and I will be in San Antonio during the St. Patrick's Day Weekend. What is a prime location to stake our claim so that we can have a great view of the st. patrick's river parade? or which restaurant has the best patio view?
Thanks a lot!

Hey Emmy,
There are a ton of prime viewing spots for the "parade". For the best St. Paddy's atmosphere, I would try Dirty Nelly's Pub. It's a part of the Hilton Palacio del Rio. There's not much outdoor patio space, so you have to get there early.
Another great option is the "Southbank" area. This includes Hard Rock Cafe, County Line BBQ, Paesano's and Starbuck's new Hear Music. Again, patio space is at a premium, but you should have plenty of options there.
Hope this helps, let me know if y'all have anymore SA questions...
