Perfect location for Exploring the Riverwalk area

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 23, 2014

We spent four nights here and couldn't have been happier about the accommodations and location. An elevator ride down from the room and ten steps north and we were on the Riverwalk! Irish themed pub, "Durty Nelly's" is located adjacent to the hotel. Terrific place to swill good beer and sing along with the "Piano Man". Turned out that the "International Accordian Music Festival" occurred while we were guests at the adjacent outdoor amphitheater. We very much enjoyed the music provided by bands from faraway places like Nova Scotia, Finland, and even Austin...

The hotel was just across the river from a ferry boat station where you can pay a small fee and board the boats for an informative tour of the Riverwalk.

Note this is an urban hotel with no adjacent parking. You're forced to use valet parking, or park in a nearby parking structure. The valet parking was quite expensive ($39.00/day). But the alternative self parking was costly too ($25.00/day) and would have been too much trouble dropping and retrieving the car each day/trip.

Unique Quality: Great view of the Riverwalk from any of the west side rooms. I think the eastside rooms would have nice views of the Tower of the Americas and the tall hotels nearby. One negative in the viewscape to the west is the large metal watertank.

Riverwalk Hilton

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 18, 2008

Located right on the banks of the Riverwalk is the Hilton Palacio del Rio. This is one of the older Hilton properties, although its location makes up for what it lacks in modern amenities. The last time I stayed here was in 2004, so there may be more recent renovations, but when I was there I had a beautiful balcony view overlooking the river, but did not spend much time inside the actual room, as it was not as nice as the view. As a Hilton Diamond member at the time, I was treated to free breakfast, which was good, but which I would not have paid for at $20 plus dollars. I was not on business this time, so I did spend quite a bit on parking, but there are less expensive options all around San Antonio if you look.

Unique Quality: Location, Location, Location.
