Hi iam going to san antonio in october for a convention and are having a hard time finding hotels that are on the river walk or near the night life
iam a guy in mid 20s and lookin for a reasonable hotel at a reasonable price
most of the hotels i have found are $200+ US per night
Can anyone recommend me some hotels that would fit

Try the LaQuinta Convention Ctr. Do not call the hotel directly...I normally get lower rates going through the 800 number for the national reserv. Just continue to ask them to look for any promotions, sometimes it takes several times for the operators to find the best rate. Have a great trip!

Great thanks for that.

I just ended up getting into the Hilton Palacio Del Rio for $175.00 per night

Do you know what the Hilton is like

I believe it's located directly on the Riverwalk, but I'm sorry, I cannot remember it. Have a great trip!

The Hilton is in a pretty good area... it is close to the alamodome, and it is a bit of a walk from the nightlife on the Riverwalk... but less than a mile.

Have a great time!

Travel Tips for San Antonio

Country Dancing/Rodeo

by deeper_blue

Texans have very strong and proud traditions. They love country music and often go country dancing. I went to a large venue (I think it was midnight rodeo) where I saw real cowboys riding some angry looking bulls, and if you fancy yourself you can ride the bucking bronco near the bar.

St. Anthony of Padua Statue

by Yaqui

This lovely bronze statue graces one of the walkways of the historic Riverwalk. It is suppose to be a live size of Anthony of Padua. The inscription reads: “San Antonio - For whom the city and the river are named – Gift of Portugal.”

Funky restaurant with seriously good food!

by Jefie about Liberty Bar

When you see it you'll have no problem believing that Liberty Bar is one of the oldest drinking establishments in Texas! In 1921, a flood left the building in good but slightly crooked condition - it took me quite a while to get used to the uneven floor, it almost felt like I was having dinner on a boat! But beyond it's unique aspect, Liberty Bar takes pride in serving "serious food" - seriously good food, that is! My lentil salad was sooo good, and so was the pear and Stilton salad. For meat lovers, I hear the pot roast is quite something too. Liberty Bar also bakes its own delicious breads and desserts. A truly great experience, thanks to Lisa's friend Dawn! If you're a fan, I would say order something that has beans/lentils/chick peas in it - I don't know how they're cooked but they're simply out of this world!

County Line BBQ

by MatthewMetcalfe about County Line

There are several County Line Restaurants in Texas. I visited the County Line in San Antonio on the Riverwalk. There is another up in the Medical Center Area.

County Line offers up a variety of Texas Barbecue. They also have an all-you-can-eat as well if you are really hungry. I thought the Sausage was fantastic. They serve a pound and a half as an appetizer and it was enough for two to eat.

For a main course I had the Brisket which is smoked for 18-20 hours. It was good but there was a little too much Barbecue Sauce on it. Next time I'll get the sauce on the side so it doesn't hide the flavor of the meat.

There Vegetable of the day was Black Eyed Peas. They looked rather plain but were quite spicy once I dug in. If you like spicy food, ask if they have them. You wont be disappointed.

They offer a standard variety of beers including Lone Star and Shiner Bock from Texas.

Fiesta Event: King William's Fair

by ChartIt

This was one of my favorite Fiesta Events as I had really wanted a reason to visit the King William District; (ok I needed a reason for someone to go with me to the King William District so I didnt look at all the cool historic homes alone) the Fair was perfect for what I wanted. Not only do you get to tour some of the most historic and beautiful mansions in San Antonio you also get to enjoy a large sized art fair full of moderatly priced art and jewelry. Some of the art could be considered a Fine Art, but on the whole it is a nice craft fair. With plenty of largely regional artisits the colors, homes, foods, and even music make this Fiesta event a pleasant change for the day.
