weather

hi, I live by tucson az. , but my kids live in austin. I want to live as close to them as possible but not live in humidity. Is San antonio still humid if so, where does the desrt start?? thanks tj tilly

Re: weather

by mccalpin

San Antonio is quite hot and humid. You will want to go to the west to avoid humidity, such as Alpine or Fort Davis or the like. Look at rainfall averages for towns in West Texas at www.weather.com.

San Antonio has something like 33 inches of rain a year, but Alpine has only 17.75 or so inches of rain per year - the general area of far West Texas is closer to desert (although it's not) than the center of Texas.

If you are willing to make short flight, look at www.southwest.com (the big discount airline headquartered in Dallas) and see where it flies from Austin...maybe Midland/Odessa (14 or so inches a year) might suit you...one problem with West Texas is that except for El Paso, there's not a lot of people there...at least the Panhandle (Midland/Odessa, Lubbock, Amarillo) has some industry and people while having much less humidity than central Texas...

Travel Tips for San Antonio

Fiesta

by darthmilmo

Enjoy the party and events hosted in Down Town San Antonio. Take in the sights of the famous Fiesta celebration... it's generally family oriented during the days, while still offer a party scene at night. Plent to offer all tasted: from Niosa to the day parade. Plenty of information on the official webpage: http://www.fiesta-sa.org/

Look for Wildflowers

by kyoub

If you happen to be in Texas in the springtime
you cannot miss seeing all kinds of wildflowers. There are bluebonnets, Indian paint brush, buttercups, sage, and many others. One of the last to arrive on the scene is the colorful Mexican hats.

San Antonio has an airport, so you can fly in or drive. It's about 3.5 hours from Houston.
Public Transportation does not exist in Texas so you are level with walking or getting car. You can walk to a lot of places if you stay in town, though.

Good Italian Food

by dtimoske about Paesano's

I haven't found a truly great Italian restaurant in San Antonio, but Paesano's is pretty good. The locals all know of it and many important business transactions go down here. It's also a great place to take a date. The shrimp paesano - it's what the restaurant is famous for.

The river full of life in downtown San Antonio

by Bela_LUng

I would of never guessed San Antonio to be a city I'd want to go back to visit, but I am convinced that if a gem like the Riverwalk can go un-noticed then what else am I missing? :)

The first to do is to find the place. It's a bit weird to find since it's below the city and hidden from street level by surrounding buildings. What this does is give the "street" a "Venice" like feel.

You see, it's not really a street as much as it's two sidewalks along the banks of the San Antonio River (I believe that is the river!). It goes on for a quite a distance and you can walk along the sides, traversing here and there over the river on foot bridges.

When you surface onto the actual street level, just make sure you know where you are. Some people pop out far away from where they entered and have no idea where they are. This can be dangerous if you pop at night while a bit drunk :) hehhe.
