Texans are a special breed....

by darthmilmo

Texans are a speciall breed. We like big trucks, big cars, big houses... big everything! As for our accent, it is a funky one. We skip the t's out of some words like football (just say foo-ball). Nonetheless, we are one of the most kind, friendly U.S. folks you'll meet in your travells.

New Jersey.. off the beaten path

by JJfromNJ

It depends on how much time you want to spend. The drive from New York to Atl City will pass plenty of towns on the Jersey shore. Belmar is a very nice, rich town. Lots of big houses, quaint shops. Seaside isn't as upscale, but it has a good boardwalk with rides, games, etc. Long Beach Island is more for the party crowd; lots of clubs, restaurants, etc.

Another popular thing to do is the Cape May/Lewes Ferry. After leaving Atlantic City, drive to Cape May (the southern point of New Jersey). It's a really nice ride and it drops you off in Delaware, just a short distance from DC. Of course this will skip Philadelphia, but you could stop there after DC if you don't mind the detour.

Also, if you want to swing it, Princeton is well worth stopping in for a few hours. It's located in the middle of the NYC, Philadelphia, Atlantic City triangle.

East/Center Road Trip

by rzgabriel

Me and my wife are going to do a road trip in USA next October. The trip will be these legs:

- New Yor City to Atlantic City
- Atl City to Philadelphia
- Philadelphia to Washington DC
- Washington DC to Chicago (that will be in 2 days!)
- Chicago to White Mountains
- White Mountains to Boston
- Boston to New York City (through Hudson Valley)

Can you give some advice in small towns and touristic places along or near the way? We don't want to go all the way through Highways.

Thanks in advance
Gabriel

two places from me that you should not miss in october:

1. from washington dc please do travel to shenandoah national park and drive on its skyline drive. the colours of the leaves will be beautiful there. you can stay at front royal and then take I-81 north and I76 west to chicago.

2. from chicago to new hampshire, do travel on I-90E through berkshires county of massachusetts. it is the appalachian country. it is also a very historical region. you will like to drive on scenic routes and enjoy smaller cities of williamstown, pittsfield, lennox and lee. The whole stretch of i-90 east of buffalo is picturesque with many smaller towns around it.

let me know and i will be happy to provide more details.

If you go to Philly from NYC and then go to AC it would allow you to take the Cape May-Lewes ferry without backtracking. From Lewes you can make your way to Washington.
From NYC you can head over to the Delaware Water Gap National Rec. Area and then head south towards Philly going through Bucks County and visit Washington's Crossing State Park along the way.
