HEMISPHERE

by MKOSHABA

CAN YOU HAVE DINNER ON THE VERY TOP OF THE HEMISPHERE TOWERS??? IS THERE A RESTERAUNT THERE??

RE: HEMISPHERE

The Tower of Americas in San Antonio has a revolving restaurant at the top. The restaurant has just been renovated and reopened by Landry's and features upscale dining (kinda spendy) and great views. For a quick drink and appetizers, go to the bar level. It doesn't rotate, but still great views.

Travel Tips for San Antonio

The Riverwalk

by GUYON

In 1921, the san Antonio River overflew and the flood destroyed the downtown. So the authorities decided to build a dam and a canal, called the Oxbow.
Some San Antonio inhabitants appreciated the banks of the canal and asked for the preservation of them.
The canal kept during a long time a bad fame : some residents used the water like a trash can.
Progressively, the image of the Riverwalk changed. The Hemisphere nearby was built in 1968 and restaurants set up along the canal.
Now it is a marvellous place for strolling and yo listen life music especially when the weather is hot.

For the adventurous soul, you should try any of the locally owend restaurants and bars. On this, the smaller the better is a general rule. This is where you can find the best food and the most interesting nightlife. Of course, you can always ask a local for suggestions.

Getting there and around

by darthmilmo

***Air: SAT Airport
***Bus: Greyhound from US (www.greyhound.com), Autobuses Americanos from Mexico (see tip)
***Car: I-35, I-10, H-281, and I-37, any of these highways or interstates will land you in San Antonio
(map modified from MS Expedia Trip Planer 98)
Definitlye by car. The bus system sucks and we don't have a metro/subway.

Sample times to cities in Texas:

Houston - 4 hrs by bus, 3 hrs by car
Austin - 1 hour by car
Dallas- 4-5 hours by car
Laredo - 4 hours
El Paso - 7-8 hours

County Line Barbeque

by Ewingjr98

When I lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, back in the late 1990s, County Line BBQ was one of my favorite spots in town. Since then, many of the out of state locations have closed, and County Line has consolidated to its home state of Texas, including a prime spot along the Riverwalk in San Antonio.

We stopped here for dinner our second evening in town after getting more than our share of Mexican during the first 24 hours. I wasn't too hungry so my dinner consisted of the baby back rib appetizer ($8.99) with fries while my friend had a little of everything in the big 5-meat combo ($16.99). Just as I remembered, the service was quick and friendly and the meat tender...as it should be after 24 hours in the smoke pit. Other than the waitress calling us "Ya'll" about 25 times, this was a great experience.

I returned again in September 2006 and dad and I each had the big 5-meat combo meals. We also met my cousin Cliff here after dinner and we stuck around drinking beers until the place closed at about 10pm.

Riverwalk

by barbipez

One of the main attractions in San Antonio is the riverwalk. it's easy to get to, decent garage parking, and shopping around. it's right near the alamo as well.

it's made for the eater and shopper. landscaping is quite nice and the entire area is exceptionally clean. it was so nice just walking along, window shopping and smelling all the great aromas coming from the restaurants.

you can take a boat ride that has a tour guide giving facts and tid-bits.

and at night, it's lit up and very romantic.
