Rivercenter Mall
by keeweechic about River Center
The Rivercenter Mall has around some 130 shops, stores, and restaurants on its three leves. There is also a multiplex cinema, a comedy club, and an IMAX theatre, which features the film "Alamo...The Price of Freedom" on a six-story-high screen. On the river side, where the tour boats make their turns, you can hear and see mariachi music being played.
Jazzy Lunch
by Jmill42 about The Landing
Being right on the Riverwalk banks definitely helps your cause as a restaurant. Then add harmonious sounds of jazz emanating from your doors and you have a winner. The Landing does just that. With the jazz flowing from their band, the good food served by a VERY friendly staff, and the spectacle of the Riverwalk itself made this restaurant my pick; I was not disappointed! Neither will you! I had the charbroiled shrimp... Fantastic!
Mando's Seafood

Mando's Seafood
It's the kind of place you'd find in Mexico. Small, funky and friendly. Jukebox has lots of musica latina. Seafood cocktail, which contains shrimp, octapus (pulpo), oysters, among other yummy things. I also like their pescado mojo de ajo - no whimpy garlic flavor here!
Texas Independence Monument
by atufft
Next to the Alamo is a substantial statue or monument carved from marble that is a tribute to the defenders of the Alamo. Compared to the silly California Bear Flag revolt, Texas actually fought for and got independence the hard way, for itself. The American government didn't even like the idea of the Texans fighting for independence, and there is some historical debate about just how unfairly treated the Texans were within Mexico. It's pretty clear though that Mexican politics centered in Mexico City, not the frontier of a relative wastland that is Texas. Naturally, the Mexican war that followed ten years later, which inspired Thoreau to write "On Civil Disobedience", did little to support the idea that the USA was freedom loving during this pre-civil war period. The monument has nicely chiseled images of the most important defenders and all defender names are chiseled onto the base. A symbolic figure of independence rises into the sky above the martyred defenders.
