Riverwalk Murals
by ATXtraveler
One of the beautiful things about San Antonio’s Riverwalk area are the various murals that can be found on a lot of the trails. A lot of time and effort has clearly gone into these beautiful artistic representations of the city, and the historical events of this town are recorded here. In this particular mural, you can see the six flags over Texas, the modern look of the city, its history with the Alamo and other missions, and of course the Riverwalk itself which binds most of these elements together.

The statue is dedicated to Moses Austin on the NW corner near City Hall in the center of Military Plaza. Sculpture by Waldine Tauch.
Moses Austin tried to start a new life since he lost his family fortune during the war of 1812. He tried to desperately to get empresarial grant in Spanish Texas. Yet, sadly Moses while traveling back home to bring back his family and 300 other colonist, he was attacked by highwaymen and beaten badly. Although, left for dead, he survived enough to get home and while he was dying, requested to his son Stephen Fuller Austin to keep his dream alive.
Buckhorn Restaurant & Cafe
by Maria250 about Perfect for a feeling of the Old West
Chili Burger, very yummy, very rich, very stuffing, just great food! Ice Tea.
"When the restaurant opened March 31, 2001, soups, salads and sandwiches were the choices to order.
Now under new management, the eatery offers a fuller menu, with daily specials, like smoked prime rib. Served from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Every meal is down-home cooking made from scratch.
"We patty up our hamburgers, hand-batter our chicken fried steak, and use real mashed potatoes," says Co-General Manager Mike McElreath. He can also put together a vegetable plate..."
When in Texas...
by rsleisk about Rudy's Barbeque
When in Texas you have to eat some barbeque and there is no better place to eat it at then the relaxed atmosphere of Rudy's. Their barbeque sauce is the best as far as I'm concerned.
In Texas we have this barbeque favorite called Brisket, which other areas of the USA seem to not know about as I recall a trip to Georgia.
At Rudy's you order by the ounces like at a deli or a butcher. You can even fill up your gas tank at the restaurant after eating of course. Brisket and peach cobbler.
The Alamo
by bct341
On the east side of Alamo Plaza is the most famous spot in Texas where 189 defenders fell on March 6, 1836, after repeated attacks by Mexican General Santa Anna’s army. Mission San Antonio de Valero (The Alamo) was established in 1718 as the city’s first mission. The chapel, one of the most photographed facades in the nation, and the Long Barracks are all that remain of the original fort. Long Barracks Museum and Library are near the chapel. The museum contains relics and mementos from the Republic of Texas and offers narration on the fall of the Alamo. The Alamo is located in the heart of the city, inside beautifully landscaped grounds.
