Rennovated Accommodation

I stayed in this hotel during a convention in November 2007. This older facility has been completely rennovated. Rooms are newly furnished and include flat screen tvs. New carpets have been installed. Wireless connectivity is available in each room for a daily fee of $10. However free email and online flight connections are available at several workstations in the Hotel. The location is ideal if you are attending an event at the convention center. I used the concierge service, the "at your service" desk (bellhops), the front desk, housekeeping and room service. All the staff was exceptionally helpful and pleasant. Marriott does a good job with staff training.

Unique Quality: The bathrooms in the hotel are unusually small (and the towels are hard and scratchy). Otherwise the room has standard accessories like iron, coffee/tea service and bathroom articles. The hotel is on Riverwalk which is accessible by walking out the door. The Riverwalk Mall and the Alamo are in easy walking distance. Not all rooms have a balcony, so ask for one with a view of the Riverwalk and downtown. I had a great view from the 21st. floor.

San Antonio's River Experience

Its 12 yrs. since this stay so I don't know how this nice hotel is now. Great Service, Concierge was well informed on restaurants in area. They made our reservations for us, etc. which was a special 25th Anniversary. Facilities have easy in and out access to either side of the River. Rooms were better than average of nice hotels. At the time, pets were allowed although we didn't see any others but we had two dogs at that time that we brought due to no choice. Our pets were treated like part of the Marriot Family as they were at other locations. Our pets were well trained and didn't disturb anyone. We just felt a bit wierd walking them out of the elevator into the grandiosa lobby out to the street and to a nearby park and along the river. For that purpose, we didn't take the touristy side of the river, but the back side where a few people in area also had dogs to walk. If not for this amenity, we could not have celebrated our Anniversary so nicely. We were running away from Mardi Gras in our area that happened to fall on our 25th Anniversary. We have just lost our last precious dog a few days ago and don't regret taking them with us as now we don't plan to have any more dogs as we want to travel more. Our last one had become disabled so we haven't gone anywhere in ages except in our motorhome. Now we plan on many more vacations like this one was.

Unique Quality: Extremely close to all the action of the River Walk. You can have a room facing the River and view all the activities below. Easy in and out to go walking along the San Antonio River or take a boat cruise on the slow moving river which to me is more like a Louisiana bayou. There are always activities going on on the river especially for holidays. There are small boat cruises some that at time we went could be arranged to be set for dinner on the boat. You can also take a tour on smaller boats. Tourists can view the boats as they pass by as you walk on the side of the river or have a meal at one of the numerous and fun restaurants set right along the river. We mainly ate at the Mexican restaurants which had great food but the mall is within walking distance with all types of food as well as cafes and other really nice restaurants along the riverwalk. For our Anniversary, we ate at a really nice French restaurant on a long walk and across the riverwalk, walk away from the mall area. I will try to find it to post its name but all I remember now is that it was on a little hill right on the riverwalk, but across from the regular tourist walking side and it had lots of little clear/white lights all over bushes in front of it. I think I remember steak was a main feature. The hotel had it in their book along with other restaurants with their menus.

San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk

This was our view from our room. We overlooked the Alamodome (home of the San Antonio Spurs) and the Tower of the Americas. If you wish for a view of Riverwalk, I would suggest getting a room on the lower levels.
