Most of the malls close indeed around 6 PM , if I may suggest you might want to spend some time after they close down the malls browsing in bookstores , they have huge Borders & B Dalton around town . I would suggest that you spend the night at Sn Marcos , that way if you have bought a lot you can drop all of your purchases at the hotel & keep on shopping , whereas if you sleep in San Antonio you have to drive an hour back , and sometimes after a whole day of shopping is quite tiring. Remember to go and claim your tax refund at San Marcos and if you do it in San Antonio allow yourself a good hour for the paperwork .
Hope you have a great shopping weekend ,
Should you need a phone of a good, clean and rather new hotel in Sn Marcos I'll provide with the phone number .

Don't know where in San Antonio you will be, but if you can, go to Riverside Mall (downtown) or Northstar Mall. They are by far the best malls in town. Enjoy!!

Absolutely go to River Center downtown or North Star. NS has the giant cowboy boot statue. River Center used to be one huge store (Joske's) and when it sold out toDilliards they added the back side and several hotels and made it fabulous! Be sure to ride one of the boats on the river while you're down there. I'm homesick now!

Travel Tips for San Antonio
About Australia
by keeweechic
For any expat Aussies, Kiwi's or even Brits, go and check out the About Australia shop just opposite the Alamo. Its a large shop which also has some Texan souveniers as well, but you may just find some of the things you have been missing and can't get in the US. The American guy there is moving to Sydney to live so we had a lovely chat. I also stocked up on Berrocca, fantails and cool mints while there.
123 Alamo Plaza or visit their website for mailing those goodies http://www.aboutaustralia.com
Lost Maples State Park
by darthmilmo
This beautiful park lies about an hour or so from Kerville. It provides an easy going trail to the top of a hill overlooking the hill country. I definitly recommend this park to any nature lovers like myself. If you have the time, spend a night on the campgrounds gazing at the stars at night (take a telescope).
Eclectic Mexican Cuisine!
by rsleisk about Rosario's
Rosario's is a very lively, artsy place bursting with color from the many local artists' paintings that adorn the walls.
There is good size bar and Salsa dancing on Friday nights.
The food is excellent. Try the Posole soup. Posole is a Metizo Mexican Indian soup that is out of this world. Have Negro Modelo and order any enchilada plate from the menu, enjoy. The Posole soup. Their enchiladas are excellent as well.
Excellent Mexican Food With a Modern Twist
by lisa_lise about Acenar
This is my favorite restaurant. It's technically on the Riverwalk downtown, but you can reach it from the River and also from the street. For good service, sit on the first floor or outside on the patio--not on the second floor.
The ambiance is modern and funky--see the web link at the end of this tip. Just recently they hired 3 mariachi singers, but they are actually skilled musicians and not the tacky kind you see so much. Entree:
My favorites are the enchiladas verdes and also the rotisserie chicken. If you like pork, the pork loin is superb. For a big appetite, the rotisserie chicken is probably your best bet. The waiters are very good at suggesting things, too.
Dessert:
I've heard that the tres leche cake is very good but not traditional, so do not get it if you are a "food purist." :)
Appetizer:
Do not get the empanada appetizer unless you like habanero peppers, because they come in a strong habanero sauce that (in my opinion) ruins the individual flavors of the empanadas. The complimentary chips and smoky salsa that come before every meal are SPECTACULAR, so you can easily fill up on that and not bother ordering an appetizer.
Drinks:
I don't drink much, but I've heard the drinks are overpriced.
San Antonio's Riverwalk
by shargurl
The Riverwalk is a 'must see' in San Antonio. It is located below the street level with sidewalks on both sides. There isn't any railing, so if you fall in don't worry, the depth is only 2-4 feet.
On your first visit to San Antonio, you must do the Riverboat cruise. This tour is highly informative and will give you a lot of information about the history of the Riverwalk, the events that happened there, and you'll learn more about the historic hotels that you see along the way.
There are many restaurants and shops on both sides of the river. I highly recommend Boudro's Texas Bistro. Order the guacomole, it's awesome!
