Travel Tips for San Antonio

ICE

by inkblotgirl

Since your clothes will be light, just a small bag...with a large one for all your shoes, if you're a shoe freak like me!! San Antonio is burning hot in the summer, so bring shorts, tanks (T's), & tons of sunblock! Oh, and drink plenty of water!!
The winters are pretty mild, nothing a nice sweater can't handle! Rarely you may need a jacket if it freezes. As I said before, sunblock!! And soap.

Bargains

by inkblotgirl about Too Good To Be Threw

This is the best consignment clothing store you'll ever find! The clothes are practically brand new and completely cheap! And I'm talking name brand stuff. Recently I bought a pair of Ann Taylor pants for $9, a Dolce dress for $15, and a Jones New York sweater for $5.
You can't beat that! Some clothes even have the original tags still attached. You can buy some things from a couple bucks up to a couple hundred (if you're looking at the furs).

Warm lighting and coffee.

by boofany about Candlelight

The food is good, the coffee is also... specialty coffee's seem a little over priced for their size, but very well made. It is for the 21 and over age group, so be sure to have your id if your age looks iffy... also be sure to call ahead to be sure they're open. I'm pretty sure they're closed mondays. the stuffed mushrooms are good, as is the vegetable lasagna. desserts are very sweet and tempting.

Great Cafe Chain

by msbrandysue about la Madeleine

La Madeline is my new favorite place to eat. The locations are not gigantic but they always have room, although they do get busy during lunch. The tables and chairs are smaller and it just adds a very french feeling to it. It's very well done.

La Madeline serves food, then has a separate bakery and coffee counter. So if you want a great meal or just some yummy dessert this is your place. The food they offer is very light. You'll find a majority of soups, salads, quiches, and sandwiches. I've never found anything I hated. They have complimentary bread with butter and preserves while you're waiting or to eat with your soup or salad.

This is a chain so please check their website to find the one nearest you! However, I would HIGHLY recommend visiting the one in the Woodlands. It's in the Market Square plaza that is a new replica of an old town built up with great shops. They have an outdoor patio that is to die for when the sun goes down. It's definitely one of my favorite things to do in Houston. ESPECIALLY DURING CHRISTMAS!!!

Mon. - Sun. 6:30 AM - 10:00 PM I love their caesar salad, strawberries and sauce, bread. My favorite meal would be the Turkey Ciabatta melt. It's sliced turkey with swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard dressing all on ciabatta bread. YUM!!!!
Any of the desserts would blow your socks off. I can never resist the chocolate chip cookie :)

River Boat a good way to Orient Yourself

by RickinDutch

The river boats that run up and down the River Walk are a nice way to orient yourself and pick out where you want to go for food and libations. There must be over a hundred places to eat and drink along the 4 mile stretch and riding the boat saves a lot of wear and tear. Plus the guide does a nice job pointing out the highlights and giving you the history.

Most of the River is shaded but the area around the convention center and the Mall is in the open. If you aren't used to all that sun (like us Alaskans) sun screen and a hat are a good idea. The boats go into the basin the Riverwalk Mall is built around. Usually live misc playing for the patrons of the food court.

The kiosk to buy tickets and board the boat was about three bridges to the left of the Hyatt back door as you face the river.
