Head a Little North for Outdoor Adventure

Head just a little north on Interstate 35 and find out where the locals go for weekend excursions. Gruene, Texas is a great spot to go for a stroll and shop in the General Store. If you come in the summer, you cannot miss tubing down the Guadalupe River. It's a refreshing way to cool off and the rapids are good but not very dangerous. You can rent a tube at several of the outfitters in town. Rockin R's is probably the most popular. Once you finish, you return your tube downstream and they haul you back to your car by bus. If roughing a natural river is not your thing, head over to Schlitterban, the largest waterpark in the state. If you have time, do both!

This place is HOT on Friday nights. Their live band Tropicante is SOOO good!!! Now this place is incredibly small so get there early. This is one of my favorite places in the city. Lots of professional dance instructors go here. So there are plenty of great dancers.
This place also has a great restaurant with a very popular chef with wine dinner events. Ive seen a little bit of everything here because it is in a tourist spot downtown. So its hard to measure. Just ensure you are in good taste. No ghetto fab or punk rock at all allowed. It has a good mix of old and young in the crowd with lots of locals and lots of tourist.

The Alamo Cafe has been around for over 20 years, serving yummy fresh tortillas (try it with butter) and Tex-Mex meals to a crowd made up of locals and hungry tourists who have just left the airport (that's us!). It can get very busy but there's a great friendly atmosphere all around so it makes for a very nice introduction to San Antonio's great good and hospitality! I ordered chimichangas and although there was no way I could eat it all (it could feed at least two people), it was a very scrumptious meal!

My husband was raised in San Antonio. Although I was born and raised in California I really enjoyed Texas. The people the FOOD....I miss the Tex-Mex. There are many things to do here in San Antonio. It accomidates to people that love to the theme park to history. I actually like doing all the free things first. One summer we visited all the missions and took pictures inside each missions. We enjoyed this drive. About a half 's day of driving. Virtual tourist helps me narrow down the places I would love to visit.
Buckhorn Saloon and Museum

The saloon part has an 118 year old bar - plenty of stuff heads mounted on the wall. There is also live entertainment. Seemore of the Buckhorn Museum in a Travelogue.
Hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. or later, Sunday - Thursday; 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. or later, Friday and Saturday.
